NEW YORK, Aug. 5 -- The Obama administration's Sudan envoy is facing growing resistance to a suggestion he made recently to civilians displaced from Darfur that they should start planning to go back to their villages. Darfurian civilians and U.N. relief agencies say it is still too dangerous to return to the region where a six-year-long conflict has led to the deaths of more than 300,000 people.

Thanks to Colum Lynch of the Washinton Post for giving voice to the opinions of the victims of the Darfur genocide. They are clear on what they want for their people: justice for the perpetrators, security for the IDPs and the right to return to their OWN villages to live in peace and recover from the years of trauma that has been inflicted upon them by al Bashir and his National Congress Party. Special Envoy Gration seems to be deaf to the pleas of the Darfuri people and easily fooled by the promises of a regime that has a 20 year track record of broken promises and unlawful behavior.

During the campaign both President Obama and Secretary Clinton correctly promised to get tough with Khartoum. It's time for them to tell Gration to change course or get a new job.
