I just heard from a UPS employee who says she was not only told to write four letters, she was also told to leave her envelopes UNSEALED when she turned them in....

And Enterprise Rent a car , made all 65,000 employees sign letters that were sent to congress in support of the GM bail out. You didnt, you were conveniently fired or laid off.
So whats your point. Companies do this all the time if it helps their profit line. This is what you get when companies rule a country. Get use to it. Its not going to change anytime soon.

I got to say I don't like UPS much. Goes back a few years to when they broke one of my guitars.

But I don't have any favorable feeling for FedEx in this dispute.

Seems to me that both are out to screw the working man.

I prefer USPS, but FedEx is my next choice. To many times Ive watch UPS sit in the truck filling out the yellow slip for the door saying he tried delivery and no one was there. Then he would run up and put it on the door and leave. One day I saw him and was fast enough to get out to his truck before he left, and he insisted he knocked and rang on the door.. When really he was just to damn lazy to carry the package to the door. Just think of all the people who dont see this happen because they are out during the day.

Union thugs using these sorts of tactics against employees? No, that would never happen....

The union so-called "thugs" were not anywhere around. We were paid and no one was forced, not in the hub I work in anyway>

I think Glockman is another solder of the republican capitalist spin machine. Doesnt matter what a union does, they are just back because they mean higher wages, which mean less profit for the capitalist.
I am really surprised republicans have so many followers because they are anti worker wages. They want us to compete with Vietnam on wages and benefits so their buddies can make much more in profits.
Im not a huge fan of Unions either. Ive been in a teamsters and another one. But at least they did keep the wages from falling so fast that we couldnt survive back then. American Ivy Greed Capitalist would have their way, we would have gone to 10 cents or less a day in 10 seconds.

I have a package to send to the left coast, I think I'll use the public option: the US postal service!

Maybe.

FedEx and UPS both have mail contracts. If you send something priority mail it will go on one of their aircraft.

Of course, the usual suspects are pretending that UPS and FedEx have the "right" to run their businesses as they see fit, and if their employees don't like it, they can get a job somewhere else.

And employees have a right to assemble and collectively bargain if they so choose.

It's hard for me to remain impartial because I work for one of these companies and interviewed with both of them.

That being said:

The purple guys are a little more reliable but a little more expensive. The brown guys are a little cheaper but not quite as reliable.

One is a trucking company with airplanes and the other is an airline with trucks.

Once the Employee Forced Choice Act passes we can all expect this treatment.

Where were the Teamsters & Mr Hoffa when UPS forced UPS employees to write to the 111th Congress? While UPS paid their teamsters to write the letters & even gave the teamsters paper, envelopes & stamps to write the letters to members of the 111th Congress, UPS engaged in a virtual unfair labor practice in a de facto sense. UPS should be forced to pay an extremely large penalty for engaging in this unethical & probably illegal practice.

I wish I could feel some sympathy for UPS -- but since the drivers who have my route started playing games five or six years ago, I can't have anything delivered to my home address if it's coming by UPS because it's a toss-up as to whether I'll get it.

Their game? -- Drive up to my apartment building, don't ring the bell, place a notice that they've "attempted delivery," input for tracking information that nobody was available to take delivery, rinse and repeat. All the time there would be someone at my home waiting on the delivery. When I called to complain to their supervisor, I was either laughed off, or told -- word for word -- "there's nothing we can do -- the driver is in the union."

I've had that exact same thing happen to me. I made a special point to stay home all day because I wanted my package and all I got was a note on the door.

Just can't help it, but it does give "brown" shirts (UPS uniform) a certain ring to it....:
