James Carville: Looks Like Health Care Public Option Is Out (VIDEO)

Appearing on CNN on Monday, James Carville argued that the evidence strongly indicates that congressional Democrats are ready and willing to give up on the public option in their health reform legislation. Democratic lawmakers who were once strong proponents of the public option now claim they're "open" to alternatives, Carville noted. He said the politics were similar to when his father used to serve him food: "You're gonna like it because you gotta like it."

On CNN last Sunday, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said that although he supported a government-managed option for insurance, he didn't want "the process to be filibustered to failure."

"When you have someone like Senator Durbin and you have other people saying well this is something that..." Carville continued, "When you're at that point of the negotiations when you're already saying 'this is something we might give up,' it's a pretty good indication to me at least."
