Outside, the gathering verged on a street brawl. The opposing forces lined up like screaming armies on either side of the street, about 1,000 people a side. Diane Campbell of Kingston, N.H., held a sign with Mr. Obama's face superimposed on a Nazi storm trooper, a sign, she said, that was made by her chronically ill mother.

Her mother's hereditary autoimmune disease is treated with expensive transfusions of gamma globulin, paid for by Medicare. Her sister, Louise, was born with no arms and one leg, and is also covered by Medicare, the government-run, health-insurance program for the elderly and disabled.

Yes, bad call by some in the news--most or all of the current batch of Obama-as-Hitler signs appear to originate from LaRouche--but LaRouche is someone I wouldn't call far left (though that's the category he's traditionally put into) or far right--he's some of both. He's a self-made hybrid, a weird creation. On the whole, he opposes the Democrats as well as the Republicans, but where LaRouche and the right wing meet, is in accusing Obama of all kinds of nonsense, INCLUDING comparing Obama to Hitler--this comparison started before the election, when it was common on far right websites like www.freerepublic.com. That's when they started Photoshopping posters from the Nazi regime, with Obama's head where Hitler's was supposed to be. One can argue whether "Republican" and "far right wing" can be considered close enough to be lumped together, but the Republicans been doing a good enough job of lumping themselves for some time.

To all you GOP individuals out there...

If universal healthcare is so BAD then why is the U.S. the only advanced nation without it? Moreover why hasn't one single country gone back to a for profit capitalistic private healthcare system and abolished their own universal care system?

How can you rage against reform because it will "RESTRICT everyone's choices" and yet you also are against reform because it doesn't RESTRICT covering abortions?

If government healthcare is so bad then why aren't you proposing that we strip veterans of their VA and Tricare benefits? Why don't you propose stripping the poor of their Medicaid benefits? Why don't you propose stripping seniors of their Medicare benefits? Why of all people hasn't one single GOP member voluntarily given up their own government health care benefits package yet? Why haven't you proposed forcing all the above mentioned individuals into the private health insurance market if government health care is so awful?

One more thing as ultraconservative as you GOP supporters are why haven't you advocated one of your core values.... Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for living a perfect healthy lifestyle and eating a perfect diet so we can all reduce long term costs to the health care system?

Just the whole promotion of an AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN being called a "Nazi" IN AMERICA is too twisted and bizarre for me to even TRY to understand how freakin' crazy they are. It's "cloaked" racism for sure, but the whole "American Black man is a Nazi" thing is just too bizarre a concept for me to grasp and even raise it to a level of "discussion".

All I know for sure is that they are in DIRE NEED of some serious psychological help ASAP... even if prison ends up being the most affordable place for them to go and get it... but then again, they'd probably deny it because it would be "Gov't ran" Mental health care.

This was an interesting article, but it would have been much more helpful if instead of just reporting the questions that people asked, you reported what his answers were. I was unable to watch the actual town hall and almost all of the video clips and reports that I have read do not really show the answers to the questions. Don't you think it would be more helpful to report on the answers to the questions? There are many of us out here who don't have town halls to go to and have some of the same questions that these people asked. I would much rather hear about what was said in response than about what the crazy people had to say.
