Cubs Fan Throws Beer At Victorino, Gets Away (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/13/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:50 PM ET

The Bleacher Bums got restless at Wrigley Field Wednesday. In the fifth inning, with the Phillies up 12-1 and the Cubs at bat, a fan dumped his beer on Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino as he was catching a sacrifice fly in center field.

Watch the play (see photo below):

Security nabbed a fan who was taunting Victorino, but it turns out he wasn't the beer tosser, who is still at large the Tribune's Paul Sullivan reports:

[B]y the time they looked at the WGN-TV video and realized the taunting fan was not the beer tosser, the fan who actually threw the beer managed to get up and slip out of the ballpark.

The Cubs are working with the Chicago Police Department to try and find the fan, and plan to release the photograph on Thursday in hopes that someone will identify him.

Cubs manager Lou Piniella apologized on behalf of the team.

"That shouldn't happen," Piniella said. "It's not good sportsmanship. ... We apologize to Victorino and the Phillies for that."

The guys a loser and a coward. On a side note, as a Brewers' fan, I am also disgusted by the waste of a perfectly good beer.

Better to throw C cell batteries, much cheaper than a MLB beer!

However it is the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor. Must be where the term 'assault and battery' came from.

He throws lies every day at his opponents.

Calling those who disagree with him "Astroturf nature of grass-roots lobbying". I am real, not astroturf.

"the Brooks Brothers brigade . . . appears to have rented a similar bus and are appearing at town hall meetings throughout the country." I have not been in brooks brothers in 30 years and did not buy anything there when I was. I have not been bussed. I have not been bussed anywhere.

In contrast I see Obama packing "town hall" meetings to keep out opponents and running slick marketing strategies funded by unions and move-on.

He claims protesters misrepresent the bill while he lies about the same bill.

In short he is slandering me for exercising my rights to free speach and petition the government.

Should of dumped it on the head of a Phillies fan instead. The players are alright but the fans are jerks.
02:52 PM on 08/13/2009
Sorry pal, but no bigger jerks than Chicago fans:
May 16, 2000 A fight involving Los Angeles Dodgers players and Chicago Cubs fans at Wrigley Field began when a spectator grabbed the hat of Dodgers backup catcher Chad Kreuter in the bullpen.
July 12, 1979 A radio DJ blew up disco records in the outfield at Comiskey Park, and a riot nearly ensued at "Disco Demolition Night". Some of the 50,000 fans got into the park for 98 cents if they brought a record. They tossed them on the field, threw beers, cherry bombs and started fires. Game 2 of the doubleheader was called off.
Sept. 28, 1995 Cubs reliever Randy Myers was charged by a spectator who ran out of the stands at Wrigley Field.
April 15, 2003 A man came out of the stands and grabbed umpire Laz Diaz around the legs during a game between the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals.
Sept. 19, 2002 A father and son burst onto the field at Chicago's Comiskey Park and slammed Kansas City Royals first-base coach Tom Gamboa to the ground, punching and kicking him.

See the picture of the guy in Chicago Sun Times?
It's always the little scrawny guys who can't actually play sports themselves. Too much of a wuss to actually do something to a real athlete's face, because he'd be broken in half.
Can't wait until the bogus news conference where he apologizes.

From one Mauiboy to another Mauiboy. It's not good to have beer without some food as well. Next time, order a hot dog or two with your brewski!

Rather interesting that this lout also threw his finger prints, and his DNA out with the plastic beer cup! Come mister policeman, or women, do your detective work, and by tomorrow afternoon, this jerk should be behind bars!

So where's the national outrage at those pesky little Chicago fans? All in good fun, right? Good thing this didn't happen in Philly, it would warrant its own Nightline segment. What a great sports town that Chicago is...

Whatever.....it was a nice toss regardless. I wouldn't turn him in myself. No point in being a snitch. It's not like he threw a battery or something. Think of it as a sudden rainfall of stale brew. Could happen to anyone.
