Or maybe he's not going admit anything. (Hey, why start now?) According to published reports one of Edwards' attorneys says Edwards has no plans to make a statement regarding Hunter's child. How much more is he going to put Elizabeth, Cate, Emma Claire and Jack through? It must be horrible for them.

Now that Edwards is going to publicly acknowledge Frances, will the child be named an heiress to his estate? I don't know what the laws of NC say, but since she is a "non marital child" (the more genteel term for ill eg ! tim @ate) would she get an equal share as his children w/Elizabeth? If so, would there have be any legal steps taken besides naming her in a will?

They could probably agree to anything but it is doubtful a person could be forced to leave part of an estate to anyone. Even legitimate children can be disinherited; although, I've heard the best way to leave anyone out of a will is to give them $1 so it's clear the person wasn't overlooked but was intentionally omitted to prevent lawsuits. If Edwards is smart (okay too late on that one so if his attorney is smart), the agreement will be a lump sum in an account for the girl administered by an independent trustee to ensure the money is for the child and the mother can't use it for herself. Then, Hunter could be out of Edwards life for good.

My question is if Hunter succeeds in having Edwards convicted for misuse of campaign funds, what happens then? Child support is based on income as well as other assets. If Edwards goes to prison, he won't have any income and could ask a judge to change any child support agreement. A judge would likely wonder why Hunter isn't contributing to the support of her child as she is capable of working. She may be setting him up and end up hurting herself!

I have very little to say that is negative about John Edwards.

I was a supporter of John Edwards and I am not all that mad at him.

I still think his talents could be used to help the country.

His platforms in the campaign were very progressive and exactly what the country needs.

He could play any number of roles in helping a progressive agenda. He doesn't need to be president to have an impact.

Life and the emotions, and psychology of human beings is complicated.

I see no reason to condemn John Edwards.

Want to know about Hunter? Lawrence O'Donnell was on Hardball on MSNBC. He said he knew Hunter decades ago and while he hasn't spoken to her, he has heard from other close friends of hers. According to him, Hunter was telling everyone that Edwards was the father and this was long before the tabloids printed a word. She set Edwards up to make sure she'd be financially set for life. (I feel sorry for that little girl having this woman for a mother.) Some people dream of winning the lottery, other people turn human beings into their own kind of lottery ticket.

None of this excuses Edwards in any way but it shows Hunter wasn't some sweet, innocent girl taken advantage of by a more worldly, older man. She knew what she was doing all along so she's as guilty as Edwards. Actually all four people involved (Edwards, Hunter, Young and Baron) are despicable.

Let me tell you something, he was never going his way until the end of his campaign, and those at Disney world, know what I mean. That campaign was over exhausting him, event after event, I literally had to help with this 3rd stump of the day when I practically ran his securtity. I heard he went on this way day after day to fight for your independence agaist as a nation in frustration.

How many business owners, professors, teachers, custodians, cooks, librarians, office workers, financial analysts, nurses, gardeners, computer programmers...etc do you think are having affairs? Lots.. this issue is utlimately about mental health. How we as people communicate our needs and how we behave in relationship with one person in our lives. People in this country have major issues with intimacy, intimacy and personal growth. How can you expect someone to grow up in American culture but still be above it when they are voted into office? I briefly flirted with supporting Edwards for President - I heard one of his speeches on nuclear power, and he said exactly what I've been saying for years, it won't work, it's too expensive to build and maintain the plants, failures can be catastrophic, you can't do anything with the waste, it's a prime target for terrorists, no one wants to live near a plant, we need better, greener alternatives, etc. What I didn't like was his waffling on gay marriage, he talked about the importance of marriage, and he cited his "faith" for his misgivings on this issue. He lost me on that. Little did I know that even as he spoke about marriage and his faith, he was cheating on his sick wife and making babies with another woman. I still agree with his political position on nuclear power, but I have no respect for him as a man or a human being, because he put himself forth as a person of principles when he had sold his own out, he abused the trust of his own wife and children. I really don't care who sleeps with whom, but don't marry if sexual variety is important to you. Don't present yourself as something you aren't.

I have always agreed with Truman's idea that a man who cannot be honest to his most important obligation in life cannot be expected to be honest in any other (paraphrase). That goes for McCain, Gingrich, Clinton, JFK, FDR, and all the rest. It's not prudish to have integrity in your marriage.

I'm tired of people criticizing Elizabeth Edwards for standing by her husband. Just put yourself in her shoes. She's living with a death sentence. She finds out that her husband chooses this time in their marriage to cheat on her. There's nothing John Edwards can do to make this up. He might as well go be with his baby momma. Obviously, the sacrifices his wife made for their family weren't enough for him. I hope that some way some how Mrs. Edwards finds some peace and joy in her remaining days. I hope and pray she gets a miracle, kick Edwards to the curb and if she wants finds a real man who makes her so happy that she'll forget Edwards ever existed.
