ABC News:

...Asked by ABC News in an interview about the thoroughly discredited claim by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to paint his philosophical writings as evidence -- along with a provision providing optional end of life counseling in the House Democrats' health care reform bill -- that President Obama wants to set up "death panels" to deny medical treatments to seniors and the disabled, including her son Trig, Emanuel, brother of White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, does not hold back.

"It's an absolute outrage that you would take first of all a provision written in the bill," Emanuel says, a provision allowing for "doctors to talk to patients about end of life care, and turn it into the suggestion that we're going to have euthanasia boards -- that's a complete misreading of what's there. It's just trying to scare people."

ok, here's the thing. by law all hospitals that take federal money, i.e. medicare/medicaid, have to ask all pt's if they have end of life plans, i.e. living wills. they also ask for a healthcare surrogate, especially if the pt becomes incapacitated. if you don't have a living will, they will encourage you to get one, and will ask if you would like someone to speak with you and help you make one. and on staff, there are people to help you create a living will. so all this nonsense about death panels, euthenasia, and dr's encouraging people to go ahead and die, is exactly that. nonsense. i am nurse, and i work in a hospital, asking people about this sort of thing is already a part of what we do. and these i di ots who have been screaming about this, think the rest of us don't know this. in fact they are counting on our ignorance.

Its a sad commentary upon the state of the health care debate when the conservatives accuse the democrats of the heinous death panels, when it is not true, and it is what the conservatives really want to perpetuate.

It's a shame that Sarah Palin would trot out her disabled grandson to use as a prop to support the deliberate lies related to the heath care bill. There are no death panels in the bill. The insurance companies are the ones with the death panels. The insurance companies are the ones that deny coverage because paying for an expensive treatment will cut into their profits. The insurance companies are the ones that deny you coverage when you have a preexisting condition.

Zeke Emanuel is one of the most knowledgeable experts and original thinkers on healthcare reform in America. His 2007 book, *Healthcare, Guaranteed* is a blueprint for the most rational, compassionate and effective healthcare system put forth by anyone on this subject.

If only Congress had the interest to read Emanuel's plan instead of the propaganda put out by the healthcare lobbyists. That would, however, presuppose that members of Congress were looking for real healthcare reform rather than contributions from the hugely profitable healthcare industry.

Silly me.

How repulsive that Palin used her most profoundly disabled child to lie about the new health care legislation. How much more repulsive that a minority of fringe lunatics are so ignorant as to take her seriously, and are brownshirting and terrorizing the town hall meetings to try to stifle any health reform, which is what the MAJORITY of Americans want.

On the other hand, it would be a refreshing and completely necessary change if Obama would get off his butt and start acting like he's the President. Why are we listening to Palin babble while he remains silent? Him sitting passively and not guiding any debate, much less legislation, has already resulted in debacles like the gutless Credit Card Act, not keeping track of just about any bailout money, and even getting us guns in national parks. We elected him to bring change, and he has elected instead to become a non-participant.

Instead of these boring and too-late town hall meetings, he should be using his considerable oratorical skills to educate the public on his vision of health care reform and exactly why tens of millions of us a real mess because we didn't get it decades ago.

We need public policy speeches to educate, guide, and inspire us. He needs to do it right now before the health care legislation is completely decimated. I would really appreciate it if Obama would step up his game, if not simply start it.

Kinda sounds like seeking health care while your young will improve your later health and keep you from spending your last years fighting the horrible diseases we bring on ourselves.

Palin intellectually superior to Obama—really? After graduating from Wasilla High School (cited in a Johns Hopkins’ study as a "dropout factory”), Palin attended 5 no-name colleges in 6 years to finally get a 4 year degree in mass communications (wow! such a academically exacting discipline). During her 6 year odyssey, one of the schools she transferred to was Matanuska Susitna Community College (Rhodes Scholar material), where she attended for only 1 semester on a beauty pageant scholarship. While Palin “the quitter” may be short on scholarly accomplishments, she far out-paces Obama when it comes to filling out college applications.

The GOP isn't trying to debate; as usual it's all about fear. You'd think by now the MSM might actually have picked up on this and stop with this nonsense about death panels and the like. But as I've said before, it's about selling ad space for fat free potato chips and diet plans that don't require exercise, not about informing the American public.

Controversy (real or generated) sells ad space. Simple as that. P.T. Barnum is laughing at us from his grave; he was right when he said "There's a sucker born every minute":.....

The MSM knows full well that it's about fear, they are the ones fomenting the fear. At the bidding of their corporate masters, I might add.
