Woman Shouts "Heil Hitler!" At Jewish Man Praising Israel's National Health System (VIDEO)

First Posted: 9/18/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Dear God. This is the way America is now. Some conservative radio host stages a "town hall" meeting in Las Vegas. The local news reports that it "was a packed house, full of opinions and no shortage of passion." How passionate? How does some dumb lady, yelling anti-Semitic slurs at another man grab you?

Media Monitor Jon, who holds it down daily on YouTube at NewsPoliticsNews, has the completely depressing clip, which shows an Israeli man holding forth on the virtues of Israel's health care system, which is "universal and compulsory, and is administered by a small number of organizations with funding from the government." I have no basis to judge its merits -- in 2000, the World Health Organization ranked it as the 28th best in the world. That said, let me sum up the countering argument, proferred by another town hall attendee: "Heil Hitler!"

That's right! Some idiot woman yells "Heil Hitler" at a Jewish man who was doing nothing more than being a passionate advocate for Israeli health care. The man, quite naturally, goes completely apoplectic, saying "Shame on you" over and over again. The woman counters by saying, "Well, you ought to be the most against President Obama." The poor man responds by saying, "I want to talk, not against Obama or for Obama. I want to talk about [health care]." He goes on to describe his own experiences with high-cost health care. For his efforts, the woman mocks him some more!

As ThinkProgress points out today, "Conservatives have strenuously denied that there is any anti-Semitism on display by anti-health reform protesters at town hall meetings nationwide." Those denials are no longer tenable, are they?

UPDATE: Various sources maintain that this awful woman is wearing an Israeli Defense Forces t-shirt, which is precisely the level of coherence we've come to expect from these Town Hall twits.

This is the age where "Christians" are proving to the world that the mentality of the European dark ages is still alive and well in America. The loudest, rudest and most violent voices are coming from so called "Christians." The very people who so loudly profess this nation to be a God fearing Christian nation are the very agent of Satan that disprove that very claim.

History has shown on countless occasions that most of the people screaming the loudest are the very strands of the America fabric that believe might makes right and that people of color never have or will never contribute anything of real value to this nation: ....slavery was a God send to the African and the genocide against Native peoples was necessary for "White Christian values, and that NO minority has a moral constitution or position that Whites are obligated to respect and honor.

This hateful, fearful, racist mob mentality usually ends in tragedy. Once again "White right wing Christians" are on the war path and again prove to the world that hypocrisy, bigotry, violence and hatred are greater than their belief in Biblical Christian values....

That was some of the worst acting I've ever witnessed.

Don't believe everything you see. That episode was as staged as the DNC's
vandalism in Colorado. His acting is on par with Keanu Reeves and it was
not possible to hide her liberal stripes.

If you're going to sink to tactics this low, at least try to get a couple actors who are somewhat believable.

That is hilarious.

Typical right-wing knee-jerk reaction. Deny, deny, deny, and then even when they show you a video, say it was staged. What's next, they bring her on FOX News to interview her and you say the DNC hypnotized her?

Hilarious.

is it religion?? is that the root? i mean is it that these people go to church every sunday and worship superstitions and it trains them every week since childhood to believe in faith??? no evidence... no reationality? is it a coincidence?i know some of you will say religious people arent all like that. well i bet you people like that are always religious. its not stupidity its just belief in fairy tales is something you have to let go of at an early age. you cant teach an old dog new tricks. the people that talk like this seem to have a childhood mentality towards real issues. look at the way she mocked this man....like a child.

I found this woman's reaction disturbing, but I don't think they were intended as antisemitic. Even worse, it misses the point. Antisemitism is not the issue, it's the efforts by the right and the health care industries to spread disinformation.

This disinformation centers around a concerted effort to equate Obama's health care initiatives with "Death Panels", eugenics, and the Nazi policies of the 30's (watch the video of the woman Barney Frank shot down a few days ago to hear the latter). In this light, this misguided woman's "Heil Hitler" remarks seem to be her attempt to sarcastically link the Jewish man's support for nationalized health care with Nazism.

I'm not defending her - she was crude and offensive - but putting this down to antisemitism lets the true offenders off the hook.

Anyone with any bit of class and decorum would never say anything like this. This shows what a cesspool of ignorance and hatred the republican party has become.

Cesspool certainly describes it. This was painful to watch. She was was hatred and ignorance incarnate.

Bush's town halls weren't anything like this. Of course, attendees at those town halls were carefully "selected".

Let this be a lesson that the town halls have brought out a lot of sickos like this woman. On the other hand, I'm suspect of a man who defends universal health care by using Israel as an example since many other countries have a universal health care plan that is better. It strikes me that he had a hidden agenda, though this in no way excuses the woman's outburst. Is anyone else tired of hearing about these kind of outbursts at town halls? Frankly, I don't see the purpose of continuing to hold town halls if most of the are an exercise in barbarism.
04:50 PM on 08/22/2009
Really? Why would you be suspicious of an *Israeli* touting Israeli healthcare? And why would he have a "hidden agenda"? Because he's a crafty jew?!?
06:15 PM on 08/22/2009
What could be the hidden agenda in talking about what you know? The guy is Israeli, knows the health care system there and talks about it.
03:28 PM on 08/22/2009
The unbelievable ignorance of this woman is just more of the same disgusting crap that keeps coming from the brainless idiotic right wing of this country! Shameless and stupid is no way to go thru life! Hatred and a lack of curiosity is a very dangerous combination.

The woman is anti-Semitic no doubt; however, the author should have written ‘The woman is anti-Semitic and racist’.

It is obvious from the footage she is a bigot! It is no surprise to me she had no shame in the sad comment she articulated, ‘Heil Hitler!’ to a Jewish man, who was being interviewed on health care.

It’s getting uglier by the minute and racist mongers like Rush, Hannity and O’Reilly are taking advantage, and playing on the simple minded, low educated, individuals fear, with utter lies and misinformation.

It’s only health care and money, and these people are getting excited without any facts.
Where were they then, when the last president sent our troops into unnecessary harm’s way?
Where were the organized meetings, name-callings, and comments on how American lives are place unnecessary in harm's way, and tremendous money spent on a unnecessary war and its effects on our economy?

It appears to me we have priorities confused

Obviously this woman is sad and ignorant and has never left her back yard. We should all pitch in and get her a dream vacation to all major Nazi concentration and death camps of Europe.
