EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — A New York art gallery has sold an Andy Warhol portrait of Michael Jackson, but won't reveal the purchase price or the buyer.

The Vered Gallery in East Hampton sold the 30-by-26-inch painting showing a smiling Jackson in a red jacket from his 1980s "Thriller" days to a buyer who requested anonymity.

The auction, which closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, was conducted online, by phone and at the gallery. The seller is a private collector.

Gallery co-owner Janet Lehr would not disclose the final bid price, but did say it was more than a million dollars.

Beautiful work... This is why Warhol still makes the news. I hope whoever purchased it will allow others to view it up close in person... pick me pick me.

IMHO, this work does not look like any of Warhol's others in his series of portraits. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a fake.

what makes it so great is that they didn't have photoshop back then. if it weren't for warhol's influence on art there would probably be no photoshop.

Well, not the same legitimacy for graphic art as high art, surely. Something like Photoshop is just a necessity for image and design professionals, but I'd definitely agree that it would be different if we hadn't turned on to celebrating graphic art as bona fide culture.
