BBC NEWS :

Many people do not realise drinking alcohol can disturb a good night's sleep by interfering with the brain, a government-funded poll suggests.

Almost half of 2,000 drinkers surveyed reported fatigue the day after drinking more than the recommended daily limit.

But some 58% of those questioned were unaware that sleep problems could be caused by exceeding the limit.

Wow! I didn't know we had a recommended daily limit. I've gotta do some serious drinking or I'll never catch up to my recommended daily limit. (:^}

You may not get any REM sleep while sleeping when drunk, but your friends get plenty of great pictures.

Every night my boyfriend drinks 3 large glasses of red wine and sometimes more or has beer and wine if we go out. He's convinced this helps him sleep. He's been doing this for many years - long before I've known him the last few years. My gut feeling is if he didn't drink like this, he'd sleep better, but it's not for me to convince him. He does exercise, but he's convinced he needs this wine to sleep.

I've actually gone on line because I think this borders the line of being an alcoholic. Any advise?

Sounds like he might be an alcoholic-lite. Three LARGE glasses of wine sounds like a bit too much over the recommended limit of two 4 oz. glasses per day. He's not stumbling around before he goes to bed is he? Trying to get him to stop might be counter-productive. It might induce anger and animosity. Make him a bet that he sleeps just the same and feels much better in the morning if he doesn't drink the wine. Make it somewhat competitive and try to get him to do it for a week to see how he feels without it. My guess is that he will feel much better without it. After the week is up tell him he can go back to it but, try to get him into the recommended range of two 4 oz glasses and have him drink them well before bed time.
