Mariah Carey is refusing to be pushed around by the Grammys anymore.
The songbird, who has won a mere five awards out of 21 nominations since 1991, is officially taking herself out of the running this year. She'll release her album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" on Sept. 29, missing the Grammy cutoff date by just one day.

MC's voice was given to her by God she didn't earn it.
Whitney will not make much splash. Hit Fix has the Daily Telegraph critique (below). The album is loaded with OTHER singers who are not on the same scale as the old Whitney. Kinda tell tale there.

I am not quite sure what a gospel soul singer once acclaimed as "The Voice" is doing duetting with Akon, the new king of autotune. Best of the bunch was an old fashioned hi energy disco version of Leon Russell's ballad 'A Song For You', on which Houston really sounds like she's enjoying herself, and not trying too hard to prove she's back and she's still hip.......
I don't watch anymore too much hype not enough real music.

MC hasnt told the grammys 2 kiss her *ss & isnt taking herself out of grammy considerations.
MC is recording new songs bc she/her label wasnt this cd 2 b a hit/success like 5's TEOM. Her cd from last was a flop bc she has bad singles & stupid music vids.
As far as grammy consid, MC will be considered 4 the 11 grammys.
I also think it is nice MC is stepping aside 2 not compete w Whitney.
& yes MC's voice def is shot but she has been releasing music constantly since 1990 so Im not surprised. However Celine Dion has been singing for a very lng time as well --plus she has a whole other career in frencn in Canada & Europe-- since 1982 & did a Vegas show fro 3yrs, & her voice aint shot.

Perhaps it's because the little songbird's albums all sound the same. Pretty much the same lyrics & tune, but always overshadowed by her vocal gymnastics. Instead of presenting the song, she presents herself - again & again.
Such a shame that an entire generation of singers want to emulate her vocal gymnastics instead of letting the music speak for itself.
We need more Aretha's & Gladys Knights. Those ladies know when less is more & how to present a song.
I like some of Mariah's music but I think the quality and beauty of her voice has been sacrificed for her need to be a sex symbol. She has spent to much time competing against this younger generation instead of being the powerhouse she used to be.
Kanye must be loving it.
After really hitting the skids awhile back professionally, she has made an amazing comeback. That impresses me. Other than that, I am not a big fan of her type of singing, although I agree she is talented.

Why are you so caught up in this like it's really a competition? They're both very talented, I happen to prefer Mariah over Whitney, but neither one of them have good taste in men.

And it's probably why she "took herself out" of the running. She'd have to perform in front of the audience and Lord knows, she is no longer able to do that and NOT look like a complete fool.
She needs the studio machinery.
I'll second that. Every show I've seen Mariah on in the last couple of years, she sounds atrocious. I'm not sure it's a condition or she just doesn't practice warming up her voice but whatever the case is, she's definitely lost her voice.
I see Mariah has a lot of haters on the MB...I'd like to see you guys accomplish some of the things she has accomplished prior to turning herself into a tramp.
I like her old voice better than the new one, but she still deserves credit for the things she has accomplished. I don't blame her for not giving in to the pressures of the Grammy's. And the fact that she's only wn 5 awards out of 21 nominations is rather odd.
I looooved Mariah growing up and I liked some of the music she's put out in the last 10 years... But, it doesn't mean that I am going to be in denial about the quality of her voice these days.
Please make this woman go away.
She's got a voice, but she really isn't incredibly inventive or pleasant to listen to in my opinion. An acquaintance of mine says she's a modern Mozart; I beg to differ. Maybe she hasn't gotten many Grammys because she hasn't really deserved them?
I second that. As with Whitney Houston. A perfect instrument and interesting music are mutually exclusive concepts.
