people.com:

As far as Brad Pitt is concerned, his new film Inglourious Basterds is the be all and end all of Nazi movies.

"The second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that Quentin [Tarantino, director] put a cover on that pot. With Basterds, everything than can be said to this genre has been said," Pitt tells the German magazine Stern. "The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story."

I have seen both movies,Pitt's and Cruise's,Pitt's movie Inglorious Basterds is far superior.
Tuarantino movie is far more entertaining even though it is a fantasy movie story.
Story line of Jews Special op's group slaying Germans in a gruesome way is appealing to the audience because it is good guys versus bad guys.
The one thing that does not ring right w me is,Nazi's were the worst people the world has ever seen, what makes this op group any better by their vicious murders of Nazi's,answer none.
At the end of movie the audience got up and clapped for the way Pitt carved Nazi symbol in this Nazi turncoat head, never seen adulation like that by a movie audience.
Being a history major Valyrie I saw,it was okay but Cruise was miscast I believe in his role,
like I said I enjoyed it but it did not have the flair Pitt's movie had.
I know Brad Pitt's dad and aunt ,went to HS w them, they are staunch Christians, graduating at
OBU in Shawnee,Oklahoma, have to believe they are appalled by the cussing Brad does in movie and his recent comments he is 20% Atheist and 80% Agnostic,Brad's parents Bill and Jane Pitt graduated
from OBU .Brad appears to me to be a good person but am perplexed by some of his comments here recently,of course one can't always believe quotes attributed to him that are not verified, all I am saying if they are true I am surprised by them.

If anyone still has it DVR'd or perhaps it is somewhere on the web... I believe Mr. Pitt made that statement on Bill Maher or a few weeks ago.

Both actors are more celebrities than actors, thus rendering them, for me, unwatchable. Be that as it may, Brad Pitt, with his comments, can forget ever having Tom Cruise come over to jump on his couch.

Melanie Laurent and Diane Kruger own the movie. Brad Pitt sports an underslung jaw in the movie, much like that of Billy Bob Thornton in Sling Blade, but without the acting ability of Billy Bob..

the story has not been "debunked"

Pitts manager would that Brad did not say anything so mean about Cruise. That is obvious. Its called damage control.

And Brad "I dont do cannibis anymore" is not know for being totally honest. He will of course deny that he said that. Of course Brad would say he never saw Valkyrie.

If Stern Magazine says that Brad didnt say it or they got it wrong - then I will beleive it.

I usually love Quentin Tarantino's movie, but I'm staying away from this one. One reason....Brad Pitt.

He sucks as an actor. Only reason he gets any roles is from his looks and that is it.

Not that Tom Cruise is any better, he isn't, Valkyrie was a very good movie.

As much as I can't stand Pitt, I still may see it only because it is a Tarantino movie. I hear the German actor is really good.

Brad never said this.

The story has been debunked, and the HP headline should be changed.
That said, Pitt is really presumptuous to think that this gory revenge fantasy of Tarantino's is the be-all and end-all of World War II movies. For one thing, it is a fantasy, and a gratuitously gory one at that. It is not based on fact, just on characters with the same names as the Nazi leaders. For another, there is a dearth of really good movies about the Pacific Theater, and for a third, not all the European Theater stories have been told. Pitt shows an amazingly dismissive attitude.

This is the kind of story that causes HP to lose credibility. The story itself says Pitt never said it but HP still puts out a false headline to get readers. HP is becoming famous for misleading headlines. Embarrassing.

"Manager: Brad Pitt Never Called Tom Cruise's Movie "Ridiculous"."

http://www.usmagazine.com/news/brad-pitt-slams-tom-cruise-nazi-flick-as-ridiculous-2009218

Mr. Pitt's manager came out last week and made this statement but yet no updates have been posted on HuffPo. This is sad considering that this makes Brad Pitt out to be a bad guy which I'm sure he is not. If Brad Pitt called Valkyrie "ridiculous" he would also be calling the few German heroes in WWII ridiculous as this film was a historical account of the attempted assassination of Hitler by a small group of brave men and women. What's truly ridiculous is that this story was printed and reprinted without any fact-checking and assuming the worst about Mr. Pitt.

LOL modern times. Brads movie had advertising on Perez Hilton (at a hundred thousand per day for two weeks and is STILL CONTINUING). Dlisted two weeks and is STILL continuing. Playboy in the magazine, on the cover and on the website and its still continuing for the past three weeks at two hundred thousand a day), msn, rotten tomatoes, yahoo. The list goes on and on. Tom had NONE of that. I think its quite telling who had to take a dig at who to get people to go and see the film and of course Brad needed to tell the world about "soulmates", and where he sleeps with his partner and in spite of all the advertising, the self promotion, the fact that he had a director who has a built in fan base he made as much as a film with an unknown cast with none of the advertising or private information overshare. Poor Brad I hope Tom won't mind him taking a dig, he needs the Cruise fans to make comparisons just so that he can decently pay Hugh Hefner never mind Perez and all the rest of them

I'm not surpprised that IB made some money. It had millions spent on advertising from Heidi Montag's edition of Playboy, to Perez Hilton (one hundred thousand a day to advertise there), dlisted, Rotten Tomatoes. It was a huge flop, it made as much as a cast of unknowns in District 9, with mega bucks spent on advertising. Brad Pitt telling the world where he sleeps with his partner and taking a dig at Tom Cruise for publicity. If anything its just the Tom Cruise fanboys who went to see this movie to make a comparison. Brad should remember while he was doing his internship as Mr Paltrow, Tom Cruise was making blockbusters. Brad will always just be a bad actor involved with a famous woman

Opening weekends:
IB $37.6 million opening weekend.
Valkyrie $21 mill
The German papers openly laughed at Cruise performance.
Cruise is a has been. Let's face it.

Not much competition out with IB. Just District 9 which has been out a week. That might explain the better numbers.

Hope IB takes in as much as Valkyrie did Internationally. I don't know if IB gets released as wide in Europe? Tarantino movies might not have as big a following over there.

Also, they spent way to much making and advertising Valkyrie, but it still made good money.

This comment seems out of character for Brad Pitt, criticizing the work of others to make your own work seem important.

But alas, performing in one of Quentin Tarantinone's films is not something, in my opinion to boast about.

Mr Tarantinoe's films are probably in the same category as Sam Peckinpah, gratuitous, gory, sadistic violence, always justifiable of course, but never failing to portray humans in the most vile despicable manner toward their fellow humans.

First you have to set up the conditions where revenge and retribution are acceptable to the audience, and what could be easier than using the barbaric mistreatment of Jews during World War II.

But my question is; what is the difference between the Nazis that killed based on their hatred and those seeking similar bloody revenge based on hatred?

Both groups possess a similar hatred for their victims, the Nazis obviously hated their victims and thought they should be exterminated, and this gang of revenge hunters display the same type of hatred for their victims, both sides seem to easily justify their extremely violent actions.

Mr Tarantinone needed a vehicle to display his pent up anger, and penchant for explicit violence, this film gives him the justification to freely show how grotesque humans can become when stirred up with hatred and revenge and how easily we can become just like the murderers they were hunting. Not a good idea to imitate the Nazis.

Such feeble suburban liberali ideas about fighting Nazis!
All of us ( including yourself) owe ever-lasting debt of gratitude to simple conscripts who hated Nazis with such passion that they sacrificed everything they had and more at Kursk, Stalingrad, Okinawa, forests of Belarus, streets of Paris, Berlin and Warsaw.
People who made difficult, and sometimes savagely brutal choices are the ones who save us all!
Not the ones who played the middle on the excuse of pacifism which during WW2 was nothing short of cowardice.

Pre-war pacifists at Oxford turned out to be highly decorated wartime officers, despite being savaged by people using fundamentally similar rhetoric to yours. These guys didn't spend all their time screaming for blood in peacetime; they did what was necessary and put it behind them afterward.

Perhaps you should learn from that example.

Tarantino is an entertainer and a moviemaker. People weren't parachuting behind enemy lines to beat up German troops with baseball bats, they parachuted behind the lines to organize resistance cells into an armed force to assist Allied Forces come D-Day.

A movie about the Jedburghs and the Resistance would be a worthy one, this is just sensationalist comic book-inspired drivel, which is par for Tarantino's course.
