PETA's Ronald McDonald Ad With Andy Dick And Martin Short (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 09/24/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:55 PM ET

PETA is up to their attention-grabbing stunts again, and this time with an anti-McDonalds ad starring Martin Short interviewing Andy Dick as a sadistic Ronald McDonald who gets pleasure out of killing chickens.

WATCH:

Did you notice around 1:15 the film takes a shot at obese people who "need to eat their chicken McNuggets?" This is the second time in the last week the PETA has had negative references to overweight people in their ads. They gained a lot of attention for their "Save The Whales" billboard that many thought mocked overweight women.

Quick Poll

What do you think of PETA's Ronald McDonald ad?

It's funny, and it gets the point across.

I'm underwhelmed.

Another lame/offensive dud from PETA.

I was vegetarian for about 8 months after a lifetime of meat with almost every meal. I ultimately couldn't resist a good steak or some elk jerky, etc. I can't eat taco meat or anything like that anymore, brats are still good. Long story short, I added a ton of veggies to my diet, i eat meat a few times a week instead of a few times a day, and i'm healthier. I think that's a reasonable compromise for your average person, you end up eating much better. You end up eating good vegetables, and really good meat.

I blame it on steak, for being unreasonably delicious and juicy.

That's how it should be. An upgrade in the quality of life, by an upgrade in the quality of food. Organic veggies, free range grass-fed beef, wild salmon, good living...

Had potential, but agree that this was sort of idiotic. They totally missed out on the most crucial information: McDonalds are not cruel because they kill animals; many decent people do so and have for hundreds of years and the enormous quantity of cattle raised in the world is becoming unsastainable, but... the problem is that McDonalds food is total crap. McDONALDS IS NOT FOOD. EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. And they obviously don't throw life chickens in the frying pan, but they raised the animals terribly. (google: CAFO).

Really wish the ad was better.

Peta has the money and influence, they could accomplish far more if they reigned in there message. They''re alarmist because it really takes that much to get our attention these days, the problem is the attention they receive is increasingly negative towards them, not interested in the important issues they're trying to bring to discussion. peta = fail, and its unfortunate because they have some good points.

Yikes, what a suspect site. Run for the hills. The author, a "doctor", has opinions that are contrary to good science.

I've read that Byrnes article many times and he commits numerous logical fallacies.

First of all, he uses lots of sources, but the doesn't use them for the majority of his claims. He will source something. such as how much butter people intake, and then state after it a variety of things not supported by the source he just referred to, in an effort to make it look as though those claims are included in the preceding source.

Second of all, he says that B12 can be obtained from plant foods that haven't been cleaned, but also says that a lack of B12 in cleaned plants is a reason human beings must be omnivorous. That is a massive logical fallacy on a level that would not be acceptable from a Bio undergrad, let alone a Doctor. If uncleaned plants are a source of B12, then it's only modern technology that has deprived vegetarians of it in a rather useful but unnatural way.

Third of all, he repeatedly assumes correlation equals causation. If it's true for Seventh Day Adventists, it must be true for everyone! He bases very lofty claims on one or two very small sample studies.

I actually agree with a LOT of what he says, but he commits far too many fallacies, uses far too old information, and is far too disingenuous for anyone to be trusting his article

You're doing an awful lot of nitpicking. Are you trying to be vegetarian for your health, or because you don't want to eat animals?
I had just a nice dinner of wild Alaskan salmon, with butter and lemon juice. It was delicious and the kind of nutrition you just can't get from twigs and tofu. I can already feel the health benefits.
Personally I think salmon exist to nourish me and allow me to survive on this earth, not to frolic in the ocean and have tea parties with their sea kitten friends. But that's just me...

I love how people are bitching that PETA is ignoring KFC for cruelty. Um, where the hell are your brains? PETA has like a million and one campaigns against KFC. So don't get all smarmy about it. They're targeting a lot of people and places because they can. Get over it.

This was oh so sick, but oh so hilarious. Not everyone will resonate to it (other than psychotic clowns and inside show biz afficiandos). Its surprizing how the Short-Dick duo can penetrate so deeply. I can hear all the chickens laughing .... they get the joke.

Do you know how many animals have to die to build a college?
02:16 PM on 08/25/2009
I don't get it. PETA wants to expose a fast food company on how they treat chickens and they use Ronald McDonald? Wouldn't the logical choice have been Colonel Sanders?
I guess PETA would rather have everyone go to McDonalds and eat HAMBURGERS? Gee what are they made out of again?

Last night I enjoyed a delicious Boca Grilled Chicken samich. Best Boca yet without those gross things in real chicken that you cant chew through and no guilt afterward I then followed that up with prodigious amounts of Miller and Marijuana.
The conflicted connoisseur.

try qorn patties and nuggets, they're terrific, better than many "real" dead chicken varieties.

your apres dinner routine seems good to go, though.
