On Monday, Rick Sanchez aired this amazing video of a iceberg spontaneously collapsing in front a group of spectators in Greenland. Sanchez points out that while it may be just a coincidence that the dramatic event was caught on tape, there has been serious, documented loss of icebergs in Greenland over the last 8 years.

Aren't icebergs supposed to melt?

Does anyone have proof of a 50 year-old iceberg ever existing? Or a five year-old iceberg? Or, a one year-old iceberg?

Does anyone know what happened to the greater part of this iceberg that was under water? Did it also collapse at the same moment, or did it melt away later?

I wish I could be like the people that believe in man made global warming. No matter that the evidence states the earth's tempature actually cooled, while CO2 levels increased, that polar bear population increased, that the earth has ice ages and warming periods, they still believe. The funny thing, they are the deniers and I do not know why.

No science in the Bible? And why separate words? LoL… it’s interesting how many think Bible believers don’t believe in science just because our views of the world is different.
Jewkie, we don’t believe in MAN MADE global warming. We do believe in global temperature change that is cyclic. The way the global warming alarmists sound, they believe that the earth has been here billions of years and it’s NEVER BEEN THIS HOT BEFORE!!! HELP, WE’RE ON FIRE!!!

Oh my yes, you're so smart.

Perhaps smart enough to know that the phenomenon that the headline screams is MELTING is actually a natural process called "calving".

But then that wouldn't support the Church of Global Warming, would it?

Yes most glaciers are melting, yes 'some' glaciers are growing.

Ocean sea surface temperatures are warming. Recent observation of ocean temperatures at depth have shown a brief cooling trend since the program came fully online in the fall of 2007.

2 years does a trend not make

C&T - there's a thorny issue for another day.

The NASA study was over a 6 year period, read again...

"Researchers with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory studying temperature changes in the world's oceans are finding no evidence of heating up in the last 5 years or so.

Scientists have been working with a program called Argo, which looks at ocean temperatures using robotic buoys which dive down to three thousand feet to collect data. Since the study began in 2003, measurements have not only failed to find evidence of warming, but in fact have picked up a slight cooling trend.

The results of the study are especially significant since 80-90% of global warming involves the oceans, which retain far more heat than land."

What you fail to mention is that the report claiming that glaciers are growing because of GW - say it's due to rising ocean temperatures - yet the ocean temperatures are cooling, not rising.

What my fellow, well intentioned environmentalists are failing to see is the financial and political motivation behind the "the debate about global warming is over" mantra.

It's August of 2009 and you are posting a link from March 2008 about the oceans cooling?

July of 2009 had the highest worldwide ocean temperatures ever recorded, so don't bother us with your old news.

I'm sorry, was March of 2008 a long time ago as far as global temperature trends are concerned?

The NASA study has been in effect for 6 years - that's 72 months compared to your 1 month - which is the greater indication of a trend?

So I'll take your 1 month and raise it 72, then I'll re-raise it by one Oceanic Atmospheric Scientist - Dr. Nathan Paldor, Professor of Dynamical Meteorology and Physical Oceanography, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Earth Sciences Institute and author of 70 peer reviewed studies...

He says this about global warming...

""Many of my colleagues with whom I spoke share these views and report on their inability to publish their skepticism in the scientific or public media
http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=865DBE39-802A-23AD-4949-EE9098538277

and

"First, temperature changes, as well as rates of temperature changes (both increase and decrease) of magnitudes similar to that reported by IPCC to have occurred since the Industrial revolution (about 0.8C in 150 years or even 0.4C in the last 35 years) have occurred in Earth's climatic history. There's nothing special about the recent rise!"

continued...

Since 1980 temperature has risen at only 2.5 °F (1.5 °C)/century, not the 7 F° (3.9 C°) the IPCC imagines. Pages 7-9.

Sea level rose just 8 inches in the 20th century and has been rising at just 1 ft/century since 1993. Sea level has scarcely risen since 2006. Also, Pacific atolls are not being drowned by the sea, as some have suggested. Pages 10-12.

Arctic sea-ice extent is about the same as it has been at this time of year in the past decade. In the Antarctic, sea ice extent – on a 30-year rising trend – reached a record high in 2007. Global sea ice extent shows little trend for 30 years. Pages 13-15.

Sometimes the daft don't understand things like non-linear math.

The concept of feedback-loops is lost on the loopy.

The idea that there's importance in "permanent" multi-year ice packs is lost on the impotent.

But not all of us are so blind as he who will not see.

This from MIT today...

SPPI’s authoritative Monthly CO2 Report for July 2009 announces the publication of a major paper by Professor Richard Lindzen of MIT, demonstrating by direct measurement that outgoing long-wave radiation is escaping to space far faster than the UN predicts, showing that the UN has exaggerated global warming 6-fold.Report, page 3.

Lindzen’s paper on outgoing long-wave radiation shows the “global warming” scare is over. Thanks to recent peer reviewed papers that have not been mentioned in the mainstream news media, we now know that the effect of CO2 on temperature is small, we know why it is small, and we know that it is having very little effect on the climate. Page 3.

The IPCC assumes CO2 concentration will reach 836 ppmv by 2100, but, for almost eight years, CO2 concentration has headed straight for only 570 ppmv by 2100. This alone halves all of the IPCC’s temperature projections. Pages 5-6.

Talk, talk, talk, talk is not taking action, until some action is taken, nothing more will be done.
Melt, melt, melt, melt away as if you were never here you giant ice mountain who will disappear by the last light of the evening sun.
You will be remembered long after your gone when we thirst for your return but it will be to late
Burn, burn, burn, burn away our heat for us for and make cool our hearts as we watch your demise and seal our fate.
When you took down the Titanic you warned us of your existence, now through our ignorance you will soon take down all of humanity as we sink into the abyss
No ice maker made on earth I assure you can save us from this.

The question is very simple: should we mitigate the impact of our consumption? I believe the Conservative answer is "yes", that if mitigation costs (carbon sequestering, for example) were built in to the price of the product, hen people can make their own decisions in a neutral way,

To reword this, there is nothing conservative about separating the future costs of environmental repair from the current cost of consumption. People are making badly informed free-market economic decisions if the cost of mitigation is not built in to the product. Carbon taxing is a very Conservative Free Market way of dealing with pollution. Ignoring a cost is NOT a Conservative Free Market way of dealing with pollution. True conservatives, if adhering to their philosophy, must support environmental cleanup costs as a logical companion to our consumption.

This philosophy is independent of whether one does or doesn't worry about global warming. Mitigating the impact of our consumption is a simple, logical, and conservative imperative. Believing our trash and consumption can be pushed to a future generation is a hedonistic approach and should be forbidden by public policy.

Why do corporate lackeys like to exclaim that the earth goes through cold and hot periods as if they have just pointed out something that scientists failed to consider in their conclusion that Human pollution is causing and un-natural acceleration of trapped heat in the earths atmosphere?
You all really do think that your statement is profound yet it’s obvious you haven’t a clue how the scientific method works and are only spewing talking points you got from corporate media.

Not that he'll ever support doing anything about it- he's too much of a "fiscal conservative" to ever get anything meaningful done.

Yes, I'm sure that the majority of climate scientists across the world never, ever took your Mars theory into consideration. After that is debunked enough for you to stop harping, you'll probably go with the mini-ice age and then the classic "it was cooler in my city this summer so this is all bunk" theory.
