What's Your Reaction?
Portman

Natalie Portman covers the September issue of Interview, and inside the magazine she engages in some characteristically adorable banter with Jake Gyllenhaal. Here are some highlights:

GYLLENHAAL: Okay. What's your favorite food?

PORTMAN: Well, I don't think you can really improve upon Carvel ice cream cake.

GYLLENHAAL: I'm more Baskin-Robbins style myself.

PORTMAN: Oh really? I am so Carvel. Did I just bring us back to 1985 Long Island?

GYLLENHAAL: What song best describes your current state?

PORTMAN: My current state . . . I'm trying to think of a song that feels like sleepwalking. [laughs] I don't know. I've mostly been listening to dirty rap lately. That's sort of my scene.

GYLLENHAAL: Your affection for dirty rap is something that people really don't know about you, which I think is fascinating. You do incredible things for the world, and then you listen to just completely obscene hip-hop music.

PORTMAN: Really, really obscene hip-hop. I love it so much. It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance. Those are like my two favorite things, so combined . . . I've been listening a lot lately to "Wait (The Whisper Song)" by the Ying Yang Twins, where the lyrics are like, "Wait 'til you see my dick"--which is just amazing because it's whispered. [whispers] "Wait 'til you see my dick . . . " [laughs] Crazy. So I just listen to it like I'm a five-year-old, like, "Oh my god! I can't believe he just said that!"

salvesons,
It doesn’t matter what HP posted as the title of this thread; if U read HP regularly then you know that it’s notorious for inaccurate headlines. By using a headline on HP to prove a point says more about u than me or Hip-Hop. People don't understand the difference between HIP-HOP and RAP and quite frankly i believe u aren’t interested in the truth. Choice in RAP is decided by corporate owned industry executives’ base of sales of white suburban kids. Hip-Hop as i stated in an earlier post consist of 4 elements: DJing, B-Boying, MCing and Graffiti.. as DJ Kool Herc states..."To me, Hip-Hop says, Come as you are. We are a family. It ain't about security. It ain't about bling-bling...... It's about you and me connecting one on one". U say you are a student of history perhaps you are however, you are not a student of HIP-HOP history otherwise you would have a different opinion of this great art form. If you are really interested on educating yourself then check out Jeff Chang's book, "Can't Stop Won't Stop". Or google Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc and KRS One....Research what took place in the early 70's in the South Bronx, NY. Earlier on this thread i provided some great video of HIP-HOP artists. By the way a Democrat and a Liberal are not the same things neither is H

I regonize the talent behind the music, but at 60, I am too old to enjoy it. I can't relate to it, but this is this generation's music, and it is not my right to criticize.

Natalie Protman does not need the heavy make-up job to be beautiful.

LMAO I find that song hysterical too. When I read it I thought she meant violent...but she meant obscene to the point that no one would ever say anything like that to anyone and how/why has music come to this.

Totally understand.

She was amazing in The Professional. What a talented performance: tough but lolita-esque.
In Star Wars she the only actress worth watching despite rather weak material.

There's plenty of modern actresses you can say that about.

Natalie Portman is not one of them.

You know why rap sucks today? Because twenty years ago NWA made a pretty good record and with rare exceptions, many MCS WITH NO TALENT and the Corporations on the planet has been copying their style ever since because the white buying public couldn't get enough of "Gangsta Rap". So if Portman loves the Ying Yang twins that seems to be normal behavior who does'nt know the beauty and diversity of Hip- Hop culture

Eric Daniels...you know nothing. Do you judge hip hop by what is on the radio? And even so, Jay Z lyrically is clearly better than anyone. NWA, yeah, had something to say but please listen to how they say it. It's play school rhymes. I'm a fan of "old school" hip hop, but please do not say people today are not talented. You must not be listening. Sure the radio is lame, but it's lame in any genre.

Stop talking

Oh, and I love the older Mary J. music. Fortunately DnDCfromChi-town has directed me to some new artists, I'm kind of old school, in a lot of ways.

It's funny when people don't see some raps and or hip hop as a form of entertainment, when mose of the quotes and lyrics come from ganster movies and pop culture reference. Where did they learn those great quotes?..lol
