Wall Street Journal:

American and Chinese officials said all the right things during this summer's inaugural round of their Strategic and Economic Dialogue. President Barack Obama pledged to "forge a path to the future that we seek for our children." Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo wondered aloud whether America and China can "build better relations despite very different social systems, cultures and histories." He answered his own question, in English, with a "Yes we can."

The way to think about the current China USA relationship is to compare it to UK and the USA in 1946 - minus whatever affection there was between the US and the UK then.

One power getting ready to elbow the other into third place economically.

Is this news. China is making money. Even with all their people they have albor shortage.

The U.S. has no focus. Socialism or capitalism.

Whoever invaded the U.S. in a Machievallian way has done their job remarkably well.

We should all tip our hats to George Soros. He brought down a super power. Now he and his friends can compete thru corporations using govt to interfere with legislation or war.

People like Soros can make money both ways. matter of fact he needs both ways to keep people in line

"Why should Beijing accept the risks that come with direct involvement in conflicts involving Iran and Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Israelis and Palestinians, Somalia and Sudan, and other sources of potential turmoil?"

Yes, why involve with conflict, when your nation could pursue business through trade. Military conflict cost; can a relationship where trade and a brighter future prosperity for both sides be always offered first, instead of guns, IED's, endless occupation. Build trade with partners and work to bring opposing sides into the fold (whatever side would take this initiative.)

We had a former ambassador to China (I forget his name, too many years ago) speak to a class of eager government majors. Of the Chinese bureaucracy, he commented something like, "Think of the amount of bureaucracy there is in the US. Now multiply that by about one hundred and you have an idea of the difficulties getting anything accomplished with the Chinese."
