What's Your Reaction?
Whole Foods Boycott

The Whole Foods boycott debate -- initiated by Whole Foods CEO John Mackey's Wall Street Journal health care op-ed bashing Obamacare and urging readers to shop Whole Foods -- has reached a new level today. The St. Louis Tea Party Coalition -- responding to the various unions and activists calling for a Whole Foods boycotts -- is holding a "buycott" to support shopping at Whole Foods. From their email to the Town and Country store management:

St. Louis Tea Party Supports John Mackey

On Tuesday, September 1, the St. Louis Tea Party coalition will hold a Tea Party BUYcott of Whole Foods in Town and Country. This means we're bringing hundreds of new customers to your store to do their weekly shopping.

Please expect unusually large volume and media attention from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. We do NOT want to inconvenience anyone in the process, of course. The idea is to help your quarterly numbers, not hurt them.

We will also collect receipts from the BUYcott to prove to your board of directors the power of our purchasing.

Thanks,
Bill

On the groups' website, which helpfully includes a map to the local Whole Foods, they explain their support:

John Mackey, one of the most generous CEOs in the country, wrote a WSJ op-ed describing his vision for a free-market healthcare reform package. Because the big union bosses stand to make billions of dollars from tax payers under ObamaCare, the unions are joining with socialists and other radicals trying to destroy John Mackey.

Considering this sort of tea-bagger reaction, Liberals would do well to appear to boycott Green Energy, The Public Library, and Evolution. This country is so polarized that whatever the Liberals do, the tea-baggers are duty bound to do the opposite. This can be used to the country's advantage.

Hmm, so Whole foods loses half their core customer base, and in exchange one store gets extra sales from 5 to 10 PM one night.
I am sure that will make everything better for whole foods.
I betcha the reason for the right wing support is that the whole foods stock fell, and these guys owned some of it!

This is the funniest thing I've read in weeks! What a crazy thing to imagine. I mean, half the time I can't figure out what to buy at whole foods ...."Should it be Kashi, or raw Bulgar for cereal this week - what do you think, honey?" ..."Tahini, or humus?"...This could result in some mental breakdowns.

Frankly, I think it is all for the good. Maybe this will lead to a new green revolution of newly green tea-baggers who are going green because they are just so mad at green non-tea-baggers. It boggles the mind - but in a good way.

with respect to the buycotters... the truly sad thing is that these people are fighting THEIR fight while they build their own cage along the way... these folks, who many likely have heart and soul into defending THEIR cause are asked not to stand outside the store for their hero mackey for fear of fiscal impact... can these people not see what pawns they are...and how this isn't about principals but only about MONEY

I wish I has enough money to shop at Whole Foods. We're forced to shop at Aldies because my insurance doesn't pay for autism.

Maybe they can buy some briskets to go with their tea parties.

How nice.

You should look into growing your own container vegetable garden, indoors or outdoors.
Seedsavers Exchange (www.seedsavers.org) has every heirloom seed imaginable, most organic, for only $2.75 per packet. If you sprout seeds every 1- 2 weeks or so and then plant them, you will always have a continuous supply of fresh, homegrown, "free" food!

Everyone I know who shops Whole Foods is a Liberal and Liberals of the most annoying "we must find some way to convince the unhealthy poor to go organic" variety. (I'm a Liberal of the "been poor, and know they can't afford organic variety").

Sure there are righties who shop there-heck they have most of the money and Whole foods is godawfully expensive, but the core customers are the quiche eating Liberals and the CEO is an idiot if he goes out of his way to piss off his core customers.

elite liberals do not care as much as they like to act ..they are blue dog liberals...really they are status quo and whole foods is just fashionable to them..trendy and hip..

It seems as if the goal is to create antagonism and contempt between groups of people with differing viewpoints. There is no intelligent analysis or discussion of the issue.

The title of this link just shows the immaturity of H.P.

Can anyone in good faith say otherwise?

I don't shop at whole foods simply because it priced me out before i ever bought the first item. I'm for organic farming, but not when organic means double or triple the price.
The whole organic thing is nothing more than an excuse anymore to jack prices so far out of sight that the people it's supposed to help simply starve.
Much of the GE foods now days can't reproduce their own seed so it keeps food prices jacked way up so organic farming becomes the new designer foods. This type of marketing has been around a long, long time now and those who were stupid enough to buy into it deserve every bit of the non-greasy, non-staining screwing they get.
I knew the organic market was "market based" and never for a moment intended to bring prices down. In fact it was intended to keep actual healthy foods out of the hands of ordinary people.
"Let them eat cake" so they'll slowly, but surely die off leaving the "good foods" for "JUST US" (GOP form of justice for the uninitiated)

I could have sworn that teabaggers thought arugula and other pinko, commie food was unpatriotic.

I agree! Liberals should stop trying to reason or argue with the dining room tables, and instead figure out how to manipulate them - as their leaders do.

When they see the high prices they will only shop there once.
