At this year's Texas State Fair the annual Big Tex Choice Awards to pick the best new foods have reached new heights...in fat content. Fernie's Deep Fried Peaches & Cream, Country Fried Pork Chips, and Fried Peanut Butter Cup Macaroons are just some of the artery-clogging, heart-attack-inducing treats on the menu. In honor of this tradition we thought we'd bring you other deep-fried food that should definitely not be deep fried so you could tell us what makes you salivate and what makes you throw up a little in your mouth.

i'm going to have to disagree on friend oreos. sure, you can (and should) only eat just one, but the cookie gets all hot and cakey, and the cream inside is all melty... i have only had two in my life, but they were worth it... besides, it's only a problem if you're eating them regularly!

There was a guy on Countdown on MSNBC tonight who deep fries butter dipped in batter. The Republicans are trying to get it included as a vegetable in the Federal School Lunch program.

How do you deep fry butter won't it all melt away before it's done?

Nah, it's like deep fried ice cream. First the butter or ice cream has to be frozen solid (in the shapes that you want). The get the oil to the right temperature while you prepare the batter. Then a quick dip in the batter and straight into the oil. Out and serve straightaway. I know this not from personal experience, but because deep fried ice cream is a staple on the suburban anglicised-Chinese restaurant menus in Australia and has been since the 1950's. It's shudderingly awful.

While some sound weird, they still do sound somewhat tasty. I'd be curious to try a couple of these.

However, the deep fried butter sounds absolutely disgusting.

You think this is outrageous enough to put on the comedy page, but my husband watched a Paula Deen program in which she deep fried everything including the cheesecake dessert.

Texas is way behind Scotland - they've been deep frying Mars bars for years!
