Ball Boy FAIL At US Open (VIDEO)

First Posted: 10/18/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:00 PM ET

It's not the US Open without a few on-court errors -- they're just generally made by the players.

During Tuesday's match between Andy Murray and Ernests Gulbis, an overeager ball boy tried leaping over a sideline wall with painful results.

Despite their proximity, ball boys should probably leave the athletics to the professionals.

From a different angle (with musical accompaniment by Rosemary Clooney):

FZliveson says:

"Blindone...three fingers point back.
You appear to have very little sense of humor and lack the ability to laugh at yourself. We all see ourselves in that energetic, gutsy lad, who made a goof, provided a laugh and learned a lesson. When's the last time you laughed at yourself?"

Absolutely, laugh at yourself. We all should. It's a sign of humility and a strong self-image.

But is that you on the video? Are you laughing at yourself?

Or some unfortunate kid who got his pratfall caught on tape?

I love "Mambo Italiano," but what does it have to do with a pratfall?

It's "fell", not "fail". He was trying to do his job.

I was watching the match and he sat by the sidelines until the game was over, and then hustled back onto the court and threw the ball back on the court.

Then, the big screen TV showed a replay of him falling and the crowd started laughing. The tennis players were a little unsure as what had actually happened. I think they saw the replay when they showed it again.

The boy took it very well. He just smiled and acted very professional, like nothing had happened. After the break, all the other ball boys and girls started teasing him good-naturedly and patting him on the back.

The young boy showed some real class. So, it's not "fail". He fell.

someday you will develop what we in the non-internet community call a "sense of humor".

then you will get over yourself.

Maybe you're right. I should not take the word "fail" so seriously when applied to an innocent kid who was the victim of an accident.

awww, thats actually a sweet take on it. No sarcasm. But I don't think the Fail thing is meant to be all that malicious. It's used whenever something doesn't go quite as planned. Check out FailBlog for tons of examples.

Try to convince me this video won't put in an appearance at the guy's grad, his wedding, every decade birthday party and probably at his funeral, too.

Why are we publicly humiliating a kid who did nothing to us?

Using "fail" this way gives respectability to a troll term that is bleeding into normal usage.

It's despicable. The term and the motivation to use it is based on sociopathy, intolerance, schadenfreude and a complete lack of empathy.

Can the adults run this place again?

Humility is toward yourself.

Charity is what you have toward others.

Well, some people do.

Did the kid do what he had intended to do? No, he failed. Quit showing intolerance and a complete lack of empathy :)
