Cindy McCain Reveals Migraine Suffering, Compares It To Husband's Torture

In a new interview with People magazine, Cindy McCain revealed her secret struggle with migraines. She compared the condition to her husband's torture as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

She says one of her first challenges was finding the words to describe how painful the headaches can be. When she first told her husband, a former POW during the Vietnam War, she used a word she knew he would understand.

"Torture," she says. "Being tied to a chair for four days. I can't imagine how unbearable that pain must have been, but yeah, I can, because a migraine may come close."

Thanks to Cindy McCain for speaking out for people who TRULY have migraines. I have been a sufferer of migraines for 9 years. I do agree that it is a "diability" and it is a disease like other health conditions. It is time for people step up and fight for something we believe in that affects your daily activity. I am married, have a full-time job with a 6 year old. I know the stress of everyday life not counting having a headache to go along with it. Along with lost of time missing work, medical expenses and just the fact that you deal with this on a daily basis is a horrible thing. I agree that you learn to deal with them and it not only affects you but your family and friends as well. I appreciate your great article regarding migraines. I feel for all migraine sufferers, including Cindy. But to compare it to torture is ludicrous. I have never known an individual to have a migraine that lasts for months to years on end.

Let me introduce myself, cheeriogirl. I have suffered from chronic migraine disorder for the past 8 years, I suffered from occasional migraine attacks before that (from the age of 4 until the age of 40).

I do not pretend to know the pain suffered by Senator McCain while he was a POW. I do know the torture of intractable migraine pain, though. If I had to describe it in one word that word would be torture.

Just because you have never known anyone to suffer for months or years, don't hold your knowledge out as the perfect example.

Migraine is not a bad headache. Migraine is a neurological disorder with many symptoms beyond the horrific head pain most non-sufferers know about. The symptoms include but are not limited to nausea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of verbal skills, visual disturbance and stroke. Yes, migraine disorder can lead to stroke and death.

Please don't comment about something when you are ignorant of it.

Unless you have suffered migraine headaches, please do not be quick to judge Mrs. McCain.

A friend of mine who suffers from migraine headaches has always always said that if they could induce these kinds of headaches (and then be able to stop the pain) it would be the best form of torture.

Migraines are indeed painful and my 28 yr old daughter suffers from them as well. She's tried various medications and holistic remedies..­.nothing works very well- or for very long. So I'm familiar with migraines and the way they can affect your everyday life.

That being said, I have little sympathy for poor ol' Cindy McCain. Does She have to get up and commute 35 miles to work everyday; migraine or not? Does she have young children to get up, feed, dress and get off to school, migraine or not? Does she have mountains of laundry to do, a house to clean, pets to take care of, maybe even [elderly] parents to look after, migraine or not?

Sorry, Cindy, your privileged life (money) can't buy you happiness, and apparently, by the perpetual sour look on your face - it hasn't. And it can't buy you sympathy either.
But I bet YOU got the best damn health care coverage EVER! [crocodile tears]
