According to the king of comedy news, Sean McCarthy (and confirmed by Michaela Watkins), Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson have been fired from the cast of "Saturday Night Live" after just one season. McCarthy broke the news earlier this week that the show hired comedians Jenny Slate and Nasim Pedrad for the upcoming season, but no one seemed aware that they were replacements--not additions.

Watkins joined the cast last fall along with Abby Elliot, who will remain on the cast. Wilson was already there, having been hired in February 2008. Watkins was perhaps best known for her impression of Arianna Huffington, but she also played Ann Coulter, Barbara Walters, Glenn Close, Hoda Kotb, and Joan Rivers. Her character Angie Tempura was a regular on Weekend Update where she promoted her snarky website "Bitch Pleeze."

WATCH:

Wilson did impressions of Jennifer Aniston, Christina Hendricks, Rachel Ray, and Elizabeth Taylor. The pair also appeared together in a regular sketch called "Cougar Den."

wow . humor is an elusive bird. somehowe I get the feeling that people who write "I don't think snl is funny at all, I haven't watched it since the 80's" have any idea what "irony" might be.

SNL is the most intelligent show on tv, I guess that's why so many people don't understand the humor.

you got it----irony is hard for a lot of people; (I also watched it in the 80's------it was more slapstick/less ironic--------(less intelligent then----sorry)

I think Watkins was great. Far better than Wilson and better than Elliot--who is good.

Fey, Poehler, and Wiig are/were the best women on SNL in many, many years. Fey and Wiig are all-time standouts for female cast members. Watkins is definitely better than Maya Rudolph and I can't even think of anyone in the past decade other than the 3 mentioned as very good female members. SNL has done poorly with their female cast members--in hiring and material they are given--generally since the beginning.

Some of Watkins impersonations were excellent. Whatever was at issue, I don’t think she was let go based on performance and talent. There must be more going on. Maybe she complained, as other women in the past have, about the treatment of women on the show?

SNL hasn't been funny since the 80's. I tried. I really tried to watch during the mid-to-late 90's but it felt like a Twilight Zone of laughter-free T.V.

As for these chicks Watkins & Wilson (Oh, I feel a comedy duo here), they didn't make a lasting impression on me but that doesn't mean they are not funny. Even though I wasn't a SNL loyal fan, I did catch them throughout last season.

Comedy is not easy and to pull it off with non-MacGruber results is rare.

They should have fired Kenan Thompson or hired another "person of color", because I am tired of seeing him play almost every black character possible (except Obama) in or out of drag. GIve a brotha a break.

The whole show is such a letdown of what it used to be. I don't watch it any more.

Casey Wilson was boring, but I thought Michaela Watkins was usually good.....and seriously cute. She had so few parts on each show, firing her doesn't seem fair.

First of all, 'SNL' hasn't been funny since the 70's, when it wasn't subject to its corporate abbrevation. Of the current lot of not so talented 'actors' who put this show on every week, Seth Meyers is simply the LEAST talented of the bunch -- he has no 'it' factor, and he is one of the most overhyped everymen ever to don the quasi comedic stage at NBC or anywhere else. He is NOT funny at all, has no particular wit to offer, and has aided the dumbing down of this program's most recent efforts to meet suspect LCD audience parameters. He once made a roast appearance for a capitol press club event, and was quite literally booed from the audience. HE's the one who should GO... Oh, and Lorne Michaels should be drawn and quartered for the descent into ignorance over the show's past three decades, for there is simply nothing left to humor thoughtful minds in this panache of pablum that is offered each week....

I guess Eddie Murphy wasn't funny. Nor Dana Carvey and Mike Meyers. Phil Hartman and Chris Rock were just boring to you.

Guess it's time to head off to the old-folks' home, pull your pants up to your armpits, while you watch repeats of the original cast and complain about the government going all socialist and not delivering your check on time.

I'm sorry to see Wilson go. I thought she was pretty good.

Funny they fired two women while Forte/Hader/Samberg are sitting around. They're three of the chief reasons I do not watch the show...ever. I have never laughed at anything they've done. The mere sight of them is grating. Give me a Radner/Fey/Wiig any day over Forte/Hader/Samberg. I still remember Wiig back in 2005 (?) playing Judy Garland in the Vincent Price's Thanksgiving Special sketch when she said, "Do you ever get the feeling your hands are made of sand?" Perfect.

Post Tina Fey there is no one on that show worth the time except Kristin Wiig. Were Wilson and Watkins fired because they just didn't write enough? Cougars won't be the same.

Hader is terrific, but I agree about Samberg...and Kristin Wiig just does the same character with the same over-the-top mannerisms several times every show...

I can see why Watkins and Wilson got fired from SNL. They make the late Denitra Vance almost seem like a comic genius during her year on the cast.

Who's the woman who plays that psychotic girl with pigtails who does horrible things then rolls her eyes and smiles and says "Sorry." I love that character!

Kristen Wiig playing Gilly. Kristen Wiig is HILARIOUS!!!!

I guess hilarious, umm and sad are the new sheeple words. It's hard to read a forum without a generous sprinkling of those words.

Saturday Night Live has not been funny for years, for adults.

On top of that, some of their repetitive sketches, like Amy Poehler aimed at Hilary Clinton, were not only
not funny, but also mean spirited. I lost respect for Poehler and the show as a result.

your opinion, of course, to which you are entitled; lots of us thought Poehler as Hillary to Fey's SP were a scream---(in the mean-spirited note, perhaps you think Fey as SP was------equal argument, eh wat-------different strokes for different folks-----ain't democracy grand---

Wiig is hilarious, always! Her range is amazing, and she never breaks character. She's produced more memorable characters than anyone in years. She's going to go down as one of the greats. Wilson is of very limited talent-I always held my breath when she was on; she looked nervous and stilted. Watkins was good, but never given much of an opportunity to show her stuff. I agree about Keenan. Ughh.

Michaela Watkins was brilliant as the "Bitch, please" blogger and Ariana Huffington. And Casey Wilson never got enough airtime. (Maybe because - even though she's gorgeous - she's not a size 2?) Here's who I would have fired before Watkins & Wilson, in order: 1) Abby Elliott, a nonentity, 2) Fred Armisten, whose Obama impression sucks, 3) Darrell Hammond, competent but a relic, 4) Kenan Thompson, bland and limited range.
