Pelosi Pushes Back: No Public Option, No Bill

As the White House signals that it is willing to move forward on a health reform plan without a public option, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) sent a strong message Thursday evening: not so fast.

In her strongest statement yet, Pelosi said that any bill "without a strong public option will not pass the House":

The alternative to a public health insurance option is not the status quo or an incremental bill.

The idea is to MANDATE by law that everyone who does not have insurance purchase it. Without a public option, people who cannot afford health insurance now will be forced by law to purchase overpriced, unreliable private insurance at extortion level rates under penalty of taxation if they don't. No increased health care will be dispensed, but there will be corporate welfare in the trillions and overpaid CEOs will get even bigger bonuses.

The immorality of this requires that that house vote down ANY health care reform bill that mandates people buy insurance without a cost-lowering public option to choose from. And if that means the feckless President takes a political hit too bad.

The welfare of real people in more important than whether a feckless President gets reelected.

Kennedy was one of our greatest champions of health care reform. He carried the torch for a long time...and now it is up to us to continue to carry it!

Our elected officials in Congress receive health care mostly paid for by us tax payers, yet many are trying to make it impossible for us to purchase an affordable plan of our own :

While many of us are struggling to afford medical insurance/medical bills.
While Congress people try to stop healthcare reform.
While Congress people accept large contributions from lobbyists to prevent health care reform.

No Bill should pass without a public option or a way to cover EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN.

The reason we cannot pass single payer now is that people who essentially have single payer ( elderly, veterans and government employees.­) fight it . They have theirs paid for by the rest of us, and now don't want to pitch in for others.

To just tweak the policies of those who have insurance will essentially make fifty million people
invisible and forgettabl­e.... even though in a world of globalized job instabilty it could be any of us at any time.

Tell you what: ANY Democrat, and I mean ANY single one of them, who does not fight to the mat for a serious reform with a viable public option does not get my vote or my trust ever again, and I venture to say that a lot of Dem voters are writing down names and keeping tabs on these people... the so-called "conservative Democrats".

What is the goal here? Pass any old bill just to say "it´s mine and they passed it" even if it stinks to high heaven and does no good for anyone except Big Business? Is that supposed to be some kind of a victory?

The only valid objective is to REFORM health care with a public option in benefit of millions of Americans who need one.

8 MILLION chronically uninsured Americans will have options...

$1 TRILLION Nationalized Healthcare Plan with $500 BILLION taken from MEDICARE TO PAY FOR IT
and not one word on TORT REFORM, no mandate on access to buy across state lines or a process in place to manage funds (rationing) except....­..TRUSTING FEDERAL BEUROCRATS.

....next thing you know the Gov will give amnesty and a Fast-Track to citizenship to all current imigrants, illegal or otherwise and then we really will have 50 million "Americans" without healthcare.
