Bobber, the Water Safety Dog can't play in the same kennel as my dog.
I was driving around the back woods of Tennessee and I saw a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale ..
I rang the bell and the owner appears and tells me the dog is in the backyard. I go around to the backyard and see a nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there.
'You talk?' I ask. 'Yep,' the Lab replies. After I recover from the shock of hearing a dog talk, I ask, “So, what's your story”? The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I
was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down". 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.' It goes without saying I was amazed. So, I go back in and ask the owner what he wants for the dog. 'Ten dollars,' the guy says. 'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap? 'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that sheeaat.'
Stimulating, huh?

WOW!!! Soon the spending will be 15% of the entire bill. That is some kind of spending to help us out of the dire straights we were in 1 year ago. Maybe we should not have had this spending and we would be in the same place now without the debt.
Oh, what, the real spending is going to happen in an election year? Now why would a bunch of Dems do that?

"The government has spent about $85 billion on Recovery Act projects so far"(this should be worded differently - just remember America, it is NOT the president spending the money on this unusually projects, it is the people, from YOUR states, that YOU elected to represent you.

High end chairs are usually in the $800 to $1000 range.

Are we going to get to watch Bobber the Water Safety Dog get washed out into the ocean, followed by a boat full of Army Corps or Engineers next time there is a hurricane in New Orleans?

I just would have thought CNN Money would have said SOMETHING about the government spending that much on chairs!!! The news story is awful!

And president Obama assured the Americans, who are now in hock for many decades, that the money would be well spent.

Economic decisions made for political reasons result in inefficiency and corruption.

This article, and the many yet to come, prove the $787,000,000,000 stimulus bill was a terrible waste of money. It would have cost far less to set the corporate tax rate to zero through 2012 and the societal and economic benefit would have been far greater.

Most of these I thought were non-weird when I read the actual article.

For example, the freezer: They are doing a renovation of their capitol building and while it was on a list of "future project" the old broke down so they replaced it now with a more energy efficient model. Remodelling the city building is a job.

Or the Ham: its going to a food bank. So basically right back to the public.

Is every expense perfect? Could they have scrimped and saved a few more pennies of it... maybe. But for a list of "weirdest" these all seemed pretty tame to me.

you just have to laugh. This is why the thought of government managed healthcare is so unpopular

This is much cheaper than wasting millions on insurance company CEO bonuses.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:25 PM on 09/04/2009

You mean all those CEO's who are kept in by the stockholders who show votes of confidence which results in them staying in their position? You mean the salary voted on by the board or the stockholders directly?

I would LOVE to be able to go to your work and tell you how much YOU should be paid.

I only started to speed read this story and I caught this:

"The Energy Department spent $73,150 on 115 office chairs"

That's a cost of $636 per chair.

To be fair, you can buy an office chair that expensive, CEO of Bear Sterns had one, I'm sure. But, these chairs were made by prisoners through a government program.

I've volunteered for a charity were we got food prepared by prisoners. Prisoners are paid far below minimum wage, $1-2/hr. So where is the cost coming from? Are these chairs made of gold?

in my experience in procuring office equipment, this would be mid-range for a good quality chair. think about it, someone is sitting in there for 8 hours a day, it has to meet ergonomic specs and be comfortable.

even the chair i have at my own home office cost that much originally, i just bought it on craig's list for much less.

i'm sure they are sturdy and will last several years, i have no issue with this expense, sorry you have to park yourself in some cheap o chair all day.
