Read the full story from another news source and it seems that the reason why she is said to have offended was the fact that her trousers were very tight.

Now the court has not taken into account that this woman may have simply and suddenly and without her knowledge on the day of the fateful event of the trouser wearing simply piled on the pounds.

Or the possibility that she could not afford to buy another Armani jeans at today's prices so had to make do with ones she had.

Just to point out that I find it quite interesting that a policeman was eyeing up her behind in the first place, what a great job to have to inspect the behind of every single woman in the street to make sure that all is well.

WHAT?! SHE WON'T BE LASHED? THAT'S RIDICULOUS! SHE WAS WEARING PANTS! PANTS! What am I supposed to tell my (non-existent) kids?

Am I on the wrong side of this argument?

It's always funny when people who blame Israeli policy on "religious fanaticism" see what real religious fanaticism looks like.

I know...religious fanaticism, however, whether it be Jewish, Muslim, Christian, is based on patriarchy, and the woman is treated as either chattel, or as subservient...the fundamentalist branches of all three major religions do not treat their women as equals...however, I don't see Israel jailing orthodox women who dress provocatively, or it happening mainly Christian nations...

Ladies?

What a bunch of weak, lily-livered men these Sudanese must be.

This is the 21st Century.

How dare they.

These guys can't control their own sexuality even though their religion demands it. So they control their women. They are a bunch of misguided losers, trying to recreate a time that never existed. Over here we call them conservatives.

They actually called neocons. The old conservatism is dead. The neocon message of forcing our will upon others is what is really happening. Their mentality is non different from the Taliban.

I have been all over the Islamic world and I have never heard of banning pants on a woman. In fact in places like Pakistan it is part of the national dress on a woman. I have been to Sudan and I have seen women wearing very revealing clothing. I don't understand this kind of case or why the authorities took it to this level.

She showed them who wears the pants in that country.

Any nation that sanctions something as barbaric as flogging, of anyone, man or woman, has forfeited its place in the world community of civilized human beings. The Sudanese officials who permit this kind of atrocity should be thrown out of power and into the gutter where they belong.

As a fellow human being and woman, I stand with you Ms. Hussein. Your courage and determination out-might any laws that deter women from wearing what they want and being who they want. You are an inspiration to us all; your actions will go so much farther than you can imagine. You give little girls the encouragement to dream big dreams and live their lives according to their plan. You give it to us all. My prayers and thoughts are with you. Peace and blessings.

Well, in a messed up way this could be called "progress."

And in a very non-messed-up way, we can say that this is far from over.
