Oprah: I Want Jaycee Dugard

Oprah wants Jaycee Dugard.

The talk show queen told "The Insider" this week that the girl kidnapped 18 years ago is one of the rare interviews that she cares about landing.

"I want that interview," Oprah told Samantha Harris. "Obviously, like everybody else in this business, I have 'my people' working on that. Now, this is the truth...I really don't care about getting interviews first and all that stuff....Really, truly, I don't play that game. I feel like if somebody wants to talk to me, they will talk to me. If they don't want to talk to me and they want to talk to whomever, fine. But this is the one I want."

Oprah added, "It's the first time I have ever called up a producer and said, 'Are we on this story? Because I want that interview!'"

Jaycee Duggard needs to be protected by the best entertainment broker around. Possibly Oprah could help facilitate that introduction. Despite whatever Jaycee Duggard or her does; her story will be turned into endless news specials, books and movies. If well protected she could make a HUGE fortune with limited invasion by the public. Interview. Book deal. Book roll out. Movie deal. Possibly sign Dakaota Fanning for the middle years. It is going to happen. Certainly Oprah has seen it all several times - she knows the best people to protect her and build a substantial fortune. Money can buy privacy and therapy.

Wow. She needs time to recover...this all seems so sudden. I can't imagine what she is going through. It would be good, though, if eventually she got to the point where she could tell her story--she would inspire millions.

Oprah....I would hope that you would help this girl as much as you could......Please give her time but please help her and her family with money to ensure that they have a safe place to live, to grow, and for rehabilitation........God only knows what they have been through......I pray for that family.....the young girls have a good chance at a normal life ( i really hope).....I hope that Jaycee's mom sticks with the rehabilitation needed for her daughter and the grand-daughters.....it will be needed indefinitely....I pray to god to give them strength...:-) I also hope that Jaycee's sister can help them as well....adjust to normal living conditions..... My last hope is that Jaycee puts Phillip and his wife behind bars for life....Jaycee does not need to know that they are free....ever.....Well, I just feel so bad about the situation and I think that Jaycee's family gets the justice that they receive. I hope the Garrido family stays in prison for life.....I hope someday to hear that the Dugard family has adjusted and the grandchildren and Jaycee are thriving.....

I agree that she should be left alone, but the simple half-hour interview could bring her as much as $600,000, maybe quite a bit more, if the right cards were played. Her family could probably really use that money. It could do a lot to give her more security that she really needs as she continues her healing. She also probably has an enormous ticket for rights on her story, even a movie. There are children involved whose family could really use the funds for a proper and wonderful remaining childhood for them to enjoy.

I strongly agree with you. I think that if her family & therapist feel she's ready to do an interview, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and quite a bit of good could come from it. Not only could she empower millions & learn to become a leader for other abuse victims, but an appearance on Oprah would mean huge exposure for her charity, a potential book deal, & movie deal. I think she should make the best of bad situation, but only if she's emotionally ready.

I agree. Oprah wants anyone who is in the midst of a sensational news story. Who needs details? We know enough about what happened to her. If knowing more would prevent this type of crime, it would be different, but it won't.

In the future, I hope law enforcement including the parole department will be more diligent in doing their jobs.

The parole officer didn't even have to get out of his chair to see something was amiss. After reports from neighbors, he could have been sitting in his chair eating donuts and pulled up the address on Google. Zooming in, anyone can see the blue tents in the yard. They didn't need a warrant to search, so there is no excuse for not finding out what was going on much sooner.

At least you are honest. Most of these comments speak with high moral imperative; but this is like one big messy crime/accident. People cannot help but gawk. Even the ones who are praying that she be left alone. I wish her well. But like most people I can't help but be curious.

users. the tv show stars are users, interested in 'getting' 'interviews', never mind, as in this case, the effects of exposure on the vulnerable victims, which would open up increased, unrelenting papparazzic-inflicted trauma -- on top of trauma. oprah needs to work on something missing in her character, some depth of understanding of how people work.

Actually it's hiding from the media that increasing unrelenting papparazzi-inflicted trauma. I don't think this woman has to worry about the papparazi following her. The public will be bored with story in no time. Oprah's just offering her a chance to come on TV & raise money for her foundation.
