What's Your Reaction?
Ferguson

Craig Ferguson, a man who chose to become a U.S. citizen, was ashamed last night at the lack of decorum Representative Joe Wilson showed when shouting, "You lie" at the president during a joint session of Congress.

"I am not getting on Congressman Wilson's case for disagreeing with the president...every congressman has a vote, he should use it, but not in the middle of a speech to the joint sessions of Congress, that's not when you do it. It's not the Jerry Springer Show. You don't stand up in the middle of Congress and go 'oh no you did not.' What the hell is wrong with you? He said his emotions got the better of him--sometimes I want to have sex with a hooker but I don't."

Craig also suggested the president's response to Wilson was boring and that he should take his act on the road to learn how to deal with hecklers.

The dim-witted self-proclaimed comedian, Ferguson, became a citizen of the U.S. to bash our freedom of speech? Wilson should be commended for speaking-up when he did. He spoke the truth at the right time----while lies were being told to a gullible audience of U.S. citizens. If you can't speak-up against a lying politician in public, then the many who have died fighting for our rights have died in vain.

It's the other way around honey! You're the one that's gullible for believing Faux News, Glenn Beck, Hannity, Rush, O'Reily, really give a dam about you!

Let's see if I get this . . . Ferguson, who actually is quite funny in my opinion, is "dim-witted" you say. He bashed our freedom of speech you say. He spoke the truth at the right time you say.

Actually, he did none of those things, and if you would have listened more carefully you would have to come to the same conclusion.

Joe Wilson's disgraceful, unbelievably discourteous outburst had nothing whatsoever to do with freedom of speech. (Ferguson allowed that every member of Congress has the right to disagree with the president of the U.S.) What Ferguson (and millions of other Americans, by the way) was taking Congressman Wilson to task for was his TIMING of the comment and the arena (joint session of Congress) in which he was making the statement.

Ferguson "dim-witted"? I think not. On the other hand, those who "lie" about what he ACTUALLY said regarding the Wilson fiasco . . . well, I rest my case.

When we have insane bipolar parties on both sides of the beltway and monolithic moneymen entities pulling the divisive media strings behind the scenes to create social unrest, politics in America is no longer funny. Stick with the puppets, Craig. Don't let CBS turn you into a politico. It's not your forte. You're a punk rock comic at heart, not an establishment sell out BSer.

I agree a joint session of congress is not a great place to voice your opposition.
Tradition, good manners, or decor all dictate etiquette in such meetings. But is booing or not clapping politely acceptable? Is standing up and clapping every 10 seconds acceptable? I'm tired of listening to such speeches with the uncomfortable booing and excessive applause. Just once a year can I tolerate the state of the union address and think we should force congress to sit and listen just once a year. I didn't like Bush's speeches, I didn't like Clinton's speeches, and now I don't like Obama's speeches. There are all just platitudes without specifics and chalk full of half truths if not blatant lies. And you can argue and defend and apologize forever.

All of Obama's town hall meetings are questionable. Bush kept protesters far away and I'm sure Clinton never invited opposition to get in a word. So let's just set up a Parliament style forum to allow tough questions. Let's take off the gloves and let the elected officials make potus defend his position more. Or are we getting too much Obama and need him to take a lower profile?

Or let's just let the media ask the tough questions. However too many think Bush got a free pass and now too many think Obama sailed through the election so nobody trust the media anymore.

Go easy on Joe Wilson. He may have a case of Tourette's syndrome. Either that or he's going to have to ease up on the sauce.

I used to be a big fan of Ferguson. Then inexplicably overnight he turned into a political hack instead of a comic. These days comedy doesn't mix well with politics. When the zeitgesit is insane or chaotic political news is no longer funny. But higher ups must have forced it upon him. So be it. His guests suck anyhow.

Comedians have been mixing politics with comedy for YEARS!
Hello....."Laugh In", "Smothers Brothers", Vaughn Meader....and the list goes on.
Guess someone lost their sense of humor on their way to the HP.

Are you really in that much pain over the stupidity of the GOP? Take some aspiring and write an apology in the morning.

You haven't really watched his show much, have you? Ferguson (and every other comedian) has been making comedy out of politics for years - and it's working very well!

Late night TV would not be the same without political humor. You must go to be early. Check out SNL. It's not on a school night. Anyway Craig Ferguson is the funniest late night host.

That was one of the funniest monologues I've seen any of the late night hosts do. I like Ferguson's style of free thought, no specific punch line that is obvious and in a Jay Leno, who became mundane to me because his jokes are so pat and choppy.

A Note to Ferguson: Hope you kept dual citizenship as you might want to go back to Scotland if the Republicans are able to cheat their way back into power.

Does anyone know why he kept approaching the camera and reaching out his arm?

it's something he does. he appears to be a touchy guy, very gregarious. he reaches out and touches the camera as if he would the arm or shoulder of a person he's speaking with. of course, that's just my impression.

it's his thing - how many of the talk show hosts stand that close to a camera? he's also up and down throughout the show, which i love.

one night, not long ago, he smacked the side of the camera so hard it shattered.

craig is still underrated - he's quick, smart, witty, funny, and at his core, he appears to be a genuinely decent person.

if you haven't seen it, i highly recomment his speech at the last bush correspondent's dinner. he was great and honest and VERY funny and they ate him up!! he got a couple of serious digs at cheney, too, but, since he had that cheeky grin on his face, he got away with his life!!! i believe it's still available on youtube.

and the youtube of his contribution to the tribute to sean connery. "the milkboys of glasgow salute you!"

Love Craig Ferguson. Sometimes it takes a naturalized American to point out our foibles. He is hilarious and makes sound points here.

The story has legs in S.C.
It seems Joe Wilson has a neighbor who is an unrepentent liberal, favoring the public option.
Ol' Joe doesn't let this liberal on his property.
A wind storm blew the liberal's only copy of the public option into Joe's yard.
When the liberal went to retreive it, Ol' Joe came out with his shotgun. He told the liberal that anything landing in his yard is his.
But he suggested that they could settle it the old fashion way. Each would take turns kicking each other in their magical parts. The last one standing could keep the public option papers.
Ol' Joe let the liberal go first. The liberal followed with a powerful kick to Ol' Joe's magical parts. Joe fell back against a large oak tree; his body shook; and, after a few minutes, got back up and prepared to return the favor.
The liberal then told Joe that it was alright; he (Joe) could keep the public option papers. He had another copy.
Actually, I'm joshing.
This story was told by the legendary folk singer Utah Phillips, and was between a Christian fascist and an unitarian.
You can see the great Phillips interview with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman at:
