Rep. Jerrold Nadler will introduce legislation to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act next week.

The Advocate has learned that Democratic representative Jerrold Nadler of New York will be introducing legislation to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act next Tuesday. A Democratic aide confirmed that a press conference to announce the bill will be held September 15 at 11 a.m. at the House Triangle.

Too early to celebrate. I'll jump up and down when I'm sure there's enough support for the bill to pass. It's encouraging though, even if it is merely symbolic of the attempted shift that's long overdue.

Not many responses here. After all, there was much yelling that the BHO administration didn't sign away DOMA the first day he took office.

The Pious Right tried to cram as many faux religious bills and laws down our throats as they could for 8 years so they could legislate their idea of morality and vilify anyone who was not in their pack. This was being done while the other part of the right was clamoring about sinister "government intervention" and "government not being the solution, but the problem". The hypocrisy is stunning but nothing new.

What they really are looking for is a theocracy, based on the teachings of the Baptist Church I guess. What's the difference between that and the Taliban or Iran for that matter? It’s all about power and self righteousness.

It's more than time but I hope Nadler has lined up enough votes so this passes in the House. I don;t want this to be another Obama token gesture to the gay community which has no chance of succeeding.

Why would this be another Obama token gesture, when its congress who has to vote and not Obama? You are contradicting yourself here. You admit that it comes down to congress having enough votes, and then you turn around and try to somehow blame Obama if congress does not pass the requisite votes!!

It's time for gay and non-gay citizens to support the repeal of DOMA. This is the fundamental civil rights issue of this generation.

Perhaps it is an opportune time to further contrast the Dems with the Juggernaut of No, careening out of control, overloaded with its crew of rude hypocrits, goose stepping to Glen Beck. Time to set the world back in order after 8 years of mismanagement and narrow thinking. Freeing the country from the yoke of DOMA is at the least another reason for the country to begin to feel better about itself.
