I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tracy Raver's photos of babies--particularly sleeping babies--are adorable. The Nebraska-based photographer appeared on the Today Show Friday, September 11.

Raver shoots portraits of babies at rest and in all sorts of positions. Full-bellies and a warm studio go a long way in coaxing the babies to sleep.

Raver spoke to Meredith Vieira.

Hey, they're no creepier than the photos of aborted fetuses those twisted "right-to-life" creeps wave outside schools. Not that that's saying much, of course.

That said, they obviously cause mixed discussion. In my opinion, that makes them valid art, like them or not.

How many of the people posting on this thread are jealous that they don't have such a great job -- creating beautiful memories that families will cherish for generations.

I love the one of the baby being held in the man's big hands but some of them are too artificial for my taste. Just me...

what is wrong with everyone, these babies are adorable. Babies are so flexible and you can posion them anyway when they are first born. I thought that I wished I could have done this with my babies pictures when they were small. Its just beautiful memories of your children.

I find it creepy, especially where the babies are in positions where their eyes should be open. I wouldn't want any part of this.

Have you had a newborn? There is no position where their eyes "should" be open. They sleep all the time in every position you can imagine.

I think they're adorable. I often get Raver baby cards for my girlfriends' birthdays and they are always admired.

What's creepy about these picture? Sorry...I luv babies, and these pictures are just adorable. Tracy did a great job. I tell you whats creepy..my urge to nibble on their tiny feet and fingers and sniff their baby powder! Now that's what you may call creapy, but I recall doing that when my younger brother and sister were born. Staring at them, sniffing them, and gently nibbling on them when Mom when Mom turned away for a moment. LOL. Talk about bonding.

You're writing to a lot of emotionally dead people.

They won't let themselves admit that it's natural and absolutely adorable that an older child would want to smell, touch and taste their younger sibling's little finger's and toes.

It would take about ten years in therapy for them to admit that they did the same thing.

Anyone who is not intoxicated by the scent of the top of a baby's head needs LOTS of therapy.

Kids do that sort of thing all the time. Why is it creepy? I mean, if an adult was nibbling on a baby I'd think it was a little wierd, but not when a little kid does it

I for one dislike contrived and posed photographs, especially of children.

Sigh ... not aesthetically pleasing to my eye. As others have said, I love my babies au naturel.
