Virginia Governor Debate

CNN Political Ticker reports that GOP gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell of Virginia blurted out the "F-Bomb" during a live radio interview.

[Radio host Mark] Plotkin asked if McDonnell would consider an increase in the state gasoline tax to help fund the transportation budget. McDonnell said no, and uttered the expletive during his response.

"So no tax will be raised during your four-year term?," Plotkin asked.

McDonnell answered: "I'm going to find other ways to be able to fund transportation. I've outlined 12 f---g funding mechanisms that are creative, that are entrepreneurial."

A few things really bother about this story, 1. I've lost all respect for the radio station (WTOP) it aired on, because they have had several of their people go live on air and on record and claim that he didn't drop the f-bomb. One claimed he actually said "correct funding," what a crock, I've listened to it several times and in the words of our pal Joe Wilson, they lie! The station is in serious CYA mode as they don't want to be fined for Mr. McDonnell's language malfunction. 2. This story has not nearly gained all the national press it deserves. If this had been a liberal candidate you can bet Dick Cheney's shotgun that Glen Beck, Bill O'reilly and the rest of the crew over at Fixed News would have been all over it like a cheap suit. 3. Republicans wanted tougher restrictions for this type of language even if "fleeting," where are they now demanding a fine towards the station and the person who said it? 4. Where is the apology form Mr. McDonnell and or where are the hecklers in at his events demanding he give one? I guess he figures that the liberal media will be sacred into not covering the story and that his pals at Fixed News will make sure some other story comes along to blow all of this over.

Honesty from a politician - very refeshing. I'd vote for him if I lived in Va.

I hope he doesn't use the word there. He should win the Tricky Dickey II award for bad behavior. But you see, Republicans lecture everybody when Democrats do it. But they always have some excuse for their own. The party of hypocrisy.

His answer will be to borrow from the government all the while still putting down "big" government. This country does not have one government it has 51 governments. Yeah.. that is big government. Too damn much government.

To think, this was once the state of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. How sad is the decline to where this guy is now a candidate for governor.

The problem with Virginia - the rich folks in NoVa pay all the taxes so the poor folk in rural areas can remain bigots. Its the American way.

The southern states play an ugly game. They use state lottery money - which should be earmarked by law to support education - to balance their general funds (and they ignore education monies). This allows them to keep taxes low. and the schools piss-poor. The also make cigs and booze easy to get with really low tax. In short, the south is paradise.

Is this one of those so-called Christian conservatives with family values? They all seem to be imploding.

Remember that people paid taxes in Christ's day. I think the GOP has gone off the chart with this "no taxes, no government" mantra. Get a new idea!

You tell 'em Bob. Show the nation we can say what we want, when we want even if it is crass and disrespectful. White Power! Your people don't care how you represent them, we just don't want those bleeding heart , do-gooders, socialist loving liberals to get in office. I don't care if they seemed to have co-oped our family values and personal responsibility platform. They have a black man leading them and we got white power.

Don't worry Bob, we got your back.

Sounds to me like he slipped, went to say finding, came out as it did, and was quickly corrected. Non-intentional. Thus a non-issue.

I use the F-Bomb whenever I want, personally, and don't find it offensive. But then again I am a Liberal.

When brandishing the Bible as a political weapon, the use of profanity over slight pressure from a radio journalist is a big window as to who the candidate really is...... combine this with his writings about women and you have a better indicator of his core values....

It's only an issue because he and his party claim to be "upstanding" (if you can all them that) people who are moral and Christian and think that using that type of language is denigrating to society. His party is also the one who wanted tougher fines and rules regarding use of language like that even in "fleeting" cases, however when one of their own uses it, it's perfectly fine. Come on, man up and either be all up in arms or don't, but hold your own to the standards you hold others to. So it's only an issue of him and his party being a bunch of two faced lying hypocrites. By the way MikeHermit, seeing the Utah logo on your post, you wouldn't happen to work for Bonneville (the owner of WTOP, the station that all of this aired on)? I only ask because their HQ is in Salt Lake City.
