Once a year the Queen of England should be required to come to America and prostrate herself before our president while chanting lend-lease lend-lease...

Why should a foreign monarch's birthday mean anything in the US? Monarchs represent a time of feudal politics and economics, where everyone except a privledged few (due to their bloodline) were enslaved. Even if monarchs are benevolent, they are still just dictators with crowns and crests. Though I despise the Bolsheviks, I do appreciate the fact that they knew how to properly deal with monarchs. I can't imagine being a British citizen and having a portion of my tax dollars go to these people.

Hear, hear, fellow American!

But I think a lot is lost on us Americans who are really not familiar with aristocracies. Those people are the most debaucherous folks in history and I think the British use them as no more than tabloid fodder. They seem to be resentful of paying the taxes, too so they gossip about them and pursue them to even the score. Bring them down to earth and more human. I think its almost a sport there to make fun of the aristocrats.

No tax money goes to the throne. The royal estate generates interest for the royal family that is taxed like any other family's income.

How come nobody ran a news story for my birthday? Not sure this one should have made this site or NBC. It is only worthy of comment because more attention needs to be paid to more important subjects.

The British Royal Family, while they are born into privilege, wealthy and luxury, apparently have quite a few if not all members who do dangerous things like serve in their country's Armed Forces. Harry spent six weeks in Afghanistan until he was discovered by the media, and my hat is off to him. I think his brother is a helicopter pilot or something. Even Prince Charles, as weak as he appears in public, served in the Armed Forces, and Prince Andrew was a hero in the Falklands. The Kennedy's, who are sometimes called the Royal Family of the U.S., have not done much military service since Joe, John, Ted and maybe Robert served in the 1940's and 1950's. I am an Irishman myself, but I don't buy into all this hatred of Britain and the Royals. They have been great friends to us, and they put up with a lot of crap with that jerk Bush.

The Afghanistan war has caused tremendous suffering for the people of Afghanistan, but when people of privilege and power serve there and see all of the suffering and horror, it becomes more likely that stuff like that ends, I would say. Hats off to you, and Happy Birthday Harry! I might be an Irishman, but my mother is Anglo, and for some people that's the bloodline that counts!

No one cares. He is of interest only because of his parents.

There are French devices invented in the eighteenth century for people like this that would eliminate having to hear about their birthdays, or anything else about them.

Sentiments like the one you've just expressed makes others wonder why your parents didn't use one. Aren't you glad they didn't. You really know nothing about Harry except the tabloid type stuff.
