Ann Curry Asks Ahmadinejad: Did You Steal This Election? (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/17/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:05 PM ET

NBC News' Ann Curry traveled to Tehran for an exclusive interview with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It is the president's first interview since the disputed June election. Curry summed up the summer-long debate on the political atmosphere in Iran by asking Ahmadinejad one key question: "Did you steal this election?"

Ahmadinejad responded by asserting that any person in Iran is free to express his or her opinion, and that he does not "see any problems."

Watch here:

The interview will air Thursday, September 17, on "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" and Friday, September 18 on "Today." MSNBC will air an hour-long special "Iran's President Speaks: The Ann Curry Interview," Sunday at 1 PM.

Ann Curry should have her passprt revoked for this ridiculous interview.
10:37 AM on 09/19/2009
Her next question should be "Then, why keep protestors, relatives of the opposing candidates, and opposing candidates in prison for a month or more? Why are they arrested at midnight and not during the day?" But, of course, he would deny everything. The interview was a total waste of time.

Your questions would have at least made it a worthwhile interview. I would love to see someone like Amy Goodman of Democracy Now interview him.
09:32 AM on 09/19/2009
She should have asked him about the 12th Imam......

Why do YOU have to belittle other people's religious beliefs? What does your jab have to do with this article, Ahmadinejad, Ann Curry or anything else? Do people who don't believe in something feel better in belittling others? Are you a better person for it? lame.

Did she put the same question to George W. Bush in 2000 and again in 2004? Answers please on the back of a postage stamp.

How do you keep yourself occupied now that Bush has been exiled to the nether regions of political and historical obscurity?
08:53 AM on 09/19/2009
In all honesty did he ever emerge from that apt environ you placed him in? Besides, isn't it a truism that Dick Cheney was the one actually running the US during the George W. Bush presidency? You neo-con supporters always get up to your diversionary tactics when you’ve either lost the argument or you know it's impossible to defend the indefensible. It must be pretty cramped for the lot of you living in that world of denial and make believe you're ensconced in.

All I did was ask a pertinent and perfectly logical question, seeing this woman was a TV anchor then as still currently is. Can’t face the truth old boy?

Professor Dr. Stanley Collymore.

Very good question!
10:05 PM on 09/18/2009
Why didn't Ann Curry ask Bush the same question? Hypocrite!
07:15 PM on 09/18/2009
An utterly ridiculous question. Did she expect him to respond "Yes, of course I did?"

I hate it when women put on the ridiculous hard scarf yet aren't even Muslim. It's degrading.
08:23 AM on 09/19/2009
No scarf no interview.
10:37 AM on 09/20/2009
This interview wasn't worth the damn scarf.

This was an extremely interesting interview for several reasons but that question was ridiculous in the extreme and I cannot fathom why Anne Curry posed the query to begin with! I was struck by the Iranian President coming off as a ignorant boob, rather than the head of a regime everyone feels so afraid of. He kept asking "What do you mean by that?" in response to Curry's queries and he said "I don't understand" several times. I was completely taken aback by what appeared to be an uneducated man! There was nothing new to be learned in this interview but it was striking in that the President of Iran was both unable and unwilling to participate in the interview.

Uneducated? He has a PhD in engineering and is a professor at a top university. Ann Curry is the one who is uneducated, arrogant and ignorant. He was playing her for the dunce that she is. He does not have to answer every question with a yes or no. He was just playing games with her and she was too stupid to understand it. She was totally unqualified for this interview. Her behavior was embarrassing. Isn't there a more qualified American journalist for such an interview?

I fully know the President's academic credentials and that was why I said "...appeared to be an uneducated man!" Of course, you can have a Ph.D from Harvard and not be able to string two sentences together! I would like to have seen Charlie Rose or Ted Koppel do this interview and found it insulting that NBC sent a woman to interview a head of a Muslim country and one who clearly did not like the fact that it was a woman interviewing him. It reminded me of 'W' sending a female as our representative in Iraq when Sadaam was in power. We don't seem to ever study the culture of these countries!

Right. Get over it. 70+ people dead in demonstrations. I'm sure that's okay with you too.

Too bad you weren't there to offer such sage advice to Rosa Parks or Gandhi. On what grounds do you think the election was fair?
01:11 PM on 09/18/2009
She should ask ACORN that question....................
01:31 PM on 09/18/2009
Ha!
11:22 AM on 09/18/2009
He didn't answer that question. Did she press on for a yes or no answer?

Sounds like you'll have to tune in to find out. Or are you happy just to assume?

I don't understand this if we don't like this jack ass , why are are we given him a face to the world so he can say more stupid thing and you know he loves to put salt in the wound and not to be concerned on whats going on in our part of this world , and we can analyze what this jack ass have to say for few weeks and not to discus the other problem that we have in the Middle East, such as the peace process, the upcoming holiday for Muslim and Jewish ,and both they have to do of being thankful and reflection , and maybe we can find our voice for the son's of the profit Abrahim, in the US we have problem with the economy, health care, the greed on wall street, education, the problem between the have not and the have,
09:07 AM on 09/18/2009
What a stupid question to ask.

I agree with you Lutfi. Ann should use her time interviewing and exposing the rightwing hate mongers in America.

Go figure..............

the economy, health care and greed on wall street still need further discussion? I think talking to brick wall would produce more results.
I think it is important to hear what he has to say. I have never heard him speak, so I would like to know what he has to say and hopefully she will ask the questions I want to hear asked.
He can say stupid things like you are given a forum to say stupid things. No one wants to stop you. Plus others might want to hear what he has to say. Don't tune in. Believe me this is more interesting than hearing about the Republicans, yet again.
