Legendary New York broadcaster Ernie Anastos had a momentary lapse of reason Wednesday night when he dropped the F-bomb live on TV.

During some playful banter with local weatherman Nick Gregory, Anastos complimented Gregory, or at least attempted to, by saying, "It takes a tough man to make a tender forecast, Nick."

Looking confused, Gregory responded, "I guess that's me."

Without missing a beat, Anastos continued, "Keep f***ing that chicken," a completely bewildering phrase that made co-anchor Dari Alexander's eyes bug out of her head. Gregory, for his part, just threw his hands up and shook his head.

Rick Santorum was worried about man on dog. Little did he know that it was the chickens that should be concerned.

Apparently the catch phrase is catching on:

I love that this makes no sense at all! I hear that he apologized and said that he meant to say "keep PLUCKING that chicken," but even that makes no sense!

It's an old chestnut about Perdue Chicken advertising in Italy. The slogan was 'It takes a tough man to make a tender bird.' in Italian it was translated 'It takes a macho man to make a chicken affectionate. I think Ernie was besmirching Nick's masculinity, really.

It's very similar to a phrase that I've heard often in the Southeastern US: "Let's f**k this chicken."

It's worth noting that I've never heard it used literally, and in almost every instance, it was used in the context of travel (i.e., "Let's hit the road," or "Let's get moving").

As odd as that is, it makes far more sense than both what Anastos said and what he claims he meant to say.

He will drink his super sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring them in alive and kickin' (puk, puk, puk)
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Call for Super Chicken! (bok bok bok bok)

It's hilarious as heck, but it's also obvious that Ernie Anastos is a ch@uvinist. That part is evident at the end of the clip in the way he interrupts his female co-anchor.
