SmearBuster: Media Matters Defends Progressives Against Witch Hunts

Media Matters:

Media Matters Action Network announced the launch of SmearBuster.org, a new website fighting back against the right-wing smear machine's progressive witch hunt. Oozing with desperation, conservatives in the media and on Capitol Hill have resorted to spouting fringe-inspired lies and paranoid conspiracy theories in their ongoing vendetta against high-profile progressives.

Conservatives have launched a war against progressives such as Cass Sunstein, Carol Browner, Mark Lloyd, John Holdren and Van Jones. Through SmearBuster.org, Media Matters Action Network will expose the false smears spread by conservatives attempting to halt progressive change.

Quoting and playing recordings of these folks is a smear so they are self smearing? Congratulations to Media Matters Action Network for launching Smear Busters.org, as a way of defeating the fear monger's propaganda machine.
It behooves all thinking people to research "Propaganda" in internet's Wikipedia and related articles. One will learn the overt and insidious ways governments, media, journalist and pundits use to sway the public through out history. A must read is "Yellow journalism" practiced by William Randolph Hearst .Also, look up the liberal journalist, the imminent propagandist Walter Lippman, who was hired by Woodrow Wilson to convince the US public in joining Britain against the Germans in WW I and again during WWII when Lippman vociferously advocated the removal of 120,000 or more Japanese-Americans from the west coast and into concentrations camps, an jgnominious mistake of historic proportion.
Fox News and 9/12 brings back memories of Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda minister and the brown-shirted Nazi storm troopers and their activities. Hopefully, the latter will not happen in America. Thanks again, Smear Busters.!

Rupert Murdoch will let the Glenn Beck show go on with zero sponsors. The sponsors have shifted to other shows but clearly - they are sponsoring the Glenn Beck Show without the public scrutiny for doing so. One vendor loves the extinction.

They can't hurt Beck or any of the smear merchants, all they'll do is bring attention to them, Theres no such thing as bad publicity to them. You can't hurt them by going after their sponsors because their sponsors are corporate America and their paid very well to rally the American people into a patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat.

I clicked the first one in the list, which was a smear by Beck against Cass Sunstein, where Beck claims that "Sunstein Wants To Allow Animals To Sue Humans".

In explaining the origins of this smear, they point to Sunstein's book, "Animal Rights", in which it is stated, "I offer a recommendation that is theoretically modest but that should do a lot of practical good: laws designed to protect animals against cruelty and abuse should be amended and interpreted to give a private cause of action against those who violate them, so as to allow private people to supplement the efforts of public prosecutors. Somewhat more broadly, I suggest that animals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives, to prevent violations of current law."".

So I have a serious question here.

Where exactly is the "smear"? No one has argued Sunstein did not write "I suggest that animals should be permitted to bring suit, with human beings as their representatives".

I haven't checked out the rest of the smears yet.

Maybe they're more "smeary" than this first one.

I really don't get this one. What is wrong with People who are pet owners bringing criminal and civil actions against people who abuse their pets. I don't have a pet but I do want to get one. The only reason for my getting a pet is to enjoy a caring relationship with the pet - I don't want and extra mouth to feed. I want companionship. If I develop a relationship with my pet and someone wanting to hurt me or for whatever reasons abuses my pet - I want legal actions against them.

What kind of society are we that we have to defend the rights of animals to be protected against human cruelty.

Most of the "smears" are just actual quotes or videos of what the people actually said. Fro example, the video of Mark Lloyd praising Hugo Chavez for shutting down Venezuelan media. Lloyd is on the FCC. He needs to go--NOW.
