Tavi Gevinson: 13-Year-Old Fashion Blogger Skips School, Attends Fashion Week (PHOTOS)

13-year-old wunderkind blogger Tavi Gevinson is the new darling of downtown. She was a special guest in the front rows of New York Fashion Week shows, making the rounds from Maria Cornejo to Marc Jacobs, and hob-knobbing with Y-3's Yohji Yamamoto and Alexander Wang.

Tavi has developed a loyal following with her fashion blog Style Rookie.

Here's how she describes herself:

Tiny 13 year old dork that sits inside all day wearing awkward jackets and pretty hats. Scatters black petals on Rei Kawakubo's doorsteps and serenades her in rap. Rather cynical and cute as a drained rat. In a sewer. Farting. And spitting out guts.

Tavi got Fashion Week's most coveted ticket: a seat at the Marc Jacobs show Monday night. Here was her succinct synopsis:

MAAAAAAARRRRRRRCCCCCCCC

[lots of photos from the show]

What. an. insane. night.

Like I said before, the real review in which I articulate will be at my Pop blog, but for now?

Night!

As mentioned, Tavi will review the shows at ThePop.com the shows once she catches her breath.

This is really old news, she has had her blog spot for ages.
I think is great that she can afford to experiment with fashion at such a young age and as long she is not neglecting her studies, I wish I could have had the opportunity!

ROTFL! This reminds me of the story, THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES.
So sad that some people just aren't realistically there and would pay outrageous money for ugly clothes.

I wouuld not be caught dead wearing those outfits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fake story. Her blog only has around 300 hits, and these articles about her have been circulating for days. Nobody goes to her site, nobody listens to her, nobody cares.

This is a classic example of the media trying to creating a celebrity/cause/fad that the majority of people, even the majority of people in the fashion industry, could care less about.

While most of her contemporaries are still writing odes to their teddy bears and colour-coding the contents of their pencil case, Tavi Gevinson is sharing her opinions on what's hot and what's not.
Looking like the dorky best friend in the flashback scenes of your standard chick flick, this curiously self-possessed tween spent the last few days on the front row of New York Fashion Week. It doesn't seem to matter that her bold fashion ensembles remind most people of a child raiding her mother's closet while her parents are out, she's scoring over 1.5 million hits a month.

Although some of her posts show an awareness beyond her years, not all of them are well composed thought-pieces. Similarly, much of the extensive photography that features on her blog resembles the kind of images accidentally captured when the lens cap is accidentally left off.

Nonetheless, she's bold, confident and successful, even if she still needs to ask for a grown-up's help when using scissors. And I can't help but have a grudging respect for any teenager willing to leave the house looking like an Amish child with a pair of superhero's underpants stuck to her head.

If anyone's going to lead the way in fashion industry, it may as well be a pencil-thin 13 year-old, one of the few people left who could fit into any of the fashion houses' increasingly unrealistic samples.

are we sure she's really just 13? She seems awfully articulate for a 13-year-old....

Great for her! What a wonderful thing to happen to a young person. Well worth, I am sure, at least a week of school.

Keep it up and follow your bliss young lady!

She fits right in. Her clothes look as horrible as most designer outfits.

this is just in no way cute. she needs to take her butt to school, she looks a hot mess. Girl, take yo butt to school and stop trying to be grown!

She has an adventurous taste in dressing which is admirable. Although often apparently not afraid of risking blatantly to end up looking like an eccentric 105-year-old 5-year-old.

To be fair to her, I should add that it always puts me off when people call themselves a cynic. At her age, I hope it will go away.
Almost thrice her age, it makes me feel all innocent and unjaded...

I'm a fan...

Tavi is a wicked rapper, a wonderful writer and has a keen appreciation for design and fashion. She's a poet, a photographer and designed a very cool t-shirt. It's fun watching her meets her heros, but she also has a sophisticated appreciation for artists from all eras. I recommend her blogs and wish her well in the coming year.
