Funny, no one ever suggests that someone having a heart attack should skip medical care. Or that diabetics should not get their insulin. When have you heard someone say to a person being wheeled in for emergency bypass surgery, "just go home, think good thoughts, and do a detox"? If you are driving, get in wreck, & your kid has massive injuries, will you avail yourselves of all medical treatment? Or will you say, "honey, let's go home. You'll be more comfortable, and I've got some herbs to help you heal"?

Chemotherapy has helped many but how many lost their lives to a weak immune system an not died of the cancer but liver failure? How can we protect our liver and immune system before given chemotherapy? How many studies have been on protecting the liver? Liver filters as the car filter in your car that is junked up and the car don't run. Patrick wanted to find a cure as I do an many others. Toxins need to be rid in our bodies as one changes a car filter. So change as in maintenance has to be taken for the body to keep running properly. Let your car filter go unchanged see what happens. Don't change your spark plugs and don't give it gas to run on. Hmmmm....Cars were invented from a human idea. Now how does your body work and hmmmm how can we make a car run and keep functioning. So think about that...We all have a right to speak as Suzanne did an yourself and I, hmmm who's to think she maybe even right or better yet onto something. We are all individuals with different ideas that make the world go around. We all serve a purpose here. Further research on coffee flush is needed also the ph of one's body meaning acidic and alkaline level.

My mother was diagnosed in April 08 with Lymphoma. She was almost 79 yrs old at the time, but in generally 'good health' for a woman her age.
But she had a large mass of cancer in her abdomen, and a few affected lymph nodes in her neck and elsewhere.
The chemo was started in June.
It was done in sets of two 3-5 hr sessions per week, every three weeks, and it was harsh!!
The week or two following the chemo treatments was worse than the actual treatments. She was so very sick, and weak, exhausted easily, nauseous, horrible diarrhea, (all) her hair fell out, she lost almost 40 lbs, and her skin yellowed....etc.
She aged at least 5 yrs in those 6 months.

But then it was all over. Treatments done, follow up tests were ordered, and as of May 09, she was declared Cancer Free. My mom is 80 now, and will most likely live another 8-10 years in generally good health again. I will agree that a good attitude and positive energy around the patient is also imperative to recovery.
Alternative healing methods also help- My mom (and other patients) got Reiki treatments; it was offered right there in the hospital where they got their chemo sessions done. So I'm not dissin' alternative medicine at all.... but lets face it; as bad as it is, and until something better comes along... Chemo works.

"Threes Company"? How long ago was that? I got to hand it to Suzanne - she's got the best plastic surgeon in Hollywood.

A little tact would have helped Ms. Somers here. I believe in Chinese Medicine which is ancient and works in tandem with Western Medicine. Western Medicine is just catching up in working with Eastern Medicine. My Chinese Doctor is being observed by Vanderbilt because she has cured several people with stage 4 cancer. This is good. We need to take the best of both but it is best to convey this message while being compassionate and caring of others.

Science and medicine do not require your belief. They are shown to work through exhaustive and time consuming proofs. Let's call it what it is.Either it's actual medicine, or it's not. Belief doesn't enter into it.

Yet doctors in China do not use those things because they do not really work.

Chinese doctors (those in China, that is) do not simply use herbs & acupuncture. They are trained and employ the best conventional as well as traditional medicine. My acupuncturist (Chinese) was trained in both conventional medicine & traditional Chinese medicine. When my uncle who lives in China crushed his leg, he had surgery using the latest techniques; he was not just treated with herbs. When his friend had cancer, she had surgery and was given chemotherapy; she also had acupuncture to help with the side effects.

And you need to be VERY careful about using the word "cure"! Many cancers are rarely considered cured. Yes, risk of recurrence goes down over time, but the risk is still there. People can have recurrences of their primary cancer 10 or 20 years later.

While I was in treatment for a very aggressive breast cancer which had already spread, I often had people come up to me (even strangers on the street) and tell me what I should be doing to be cured. They knew little or nothing of my situation, what type of cancer, what the characteristics were, how far it had spread. But they knew how to cure me. Well, I had surgery, chemo, radiation, more chemo (and acupuncture & exercise to help with the side effects).... And 8 years later, I am still here, apparently cancer free, but not "cured".

I admire Ms. Somer's advocacy for bioidentical hormones----I take them myself, although in far more reasonable/physiologic doses, and under the care of a board certified physician rather than from advice from a celebrity. She certainly has worked tirelessly to bring BHRT to the forefront of women's health. I was, however, disgusted to read her comments about Patrick Swayze's death-----she is blatantly, tactlessly and shamelessly promoting her upcoming book, and her timing, so soon after Mr. Swayze's death, is boorish and insensitive to Patrick's wife and colleagues. My condolences to the Swayze family.

I heard today that she has a cancer book coming out soon ... But whether she does or not, her lack of scientific and medical knowledge is astounding.

One's ideas and life experience can help save another life in sparking ideas whom have the technology and medical knowledge to do studies that could lead us in the right direction. It's amazing how people think positive an help another. We all have a purpose here and we all have a gift of the knowledge we've have chose to absorb and learn or take in. It maybe a simple idea that you or I have that has helped one person but that's life. We can choose to share or keep it too ourselves and I seem to think sharing ideas or thoughts helps those whom want to have some belief. When the doctor tells you we can't do no more they can take away your hope an allow one to give up on life. This is sad.

Suzanne Summers,

You were lucky in battling cancer, and Patrick Swayze wasn't.

Using the occasion of his death to gloat over it is DISGUSTING.
