Statler & Waldorf Heckle Obama (VIDEO)

President Obama was heckled recently, this time at a health care speech in Maryland. A man stood up and shouted, "Obama you're a liar. Obama, your health care kills children. Abortion is murder," which drew boos from the audience and made Obama asked "What's going on?"

Of course, that's not how Conan tells it. He showed video last night that proves it was not an angry young man, but two angry old muppets that harassed the president in College Park. Statler and Waldorf, who are not strangers to late night, were the real culprits.

Perhaps it's a bit of PBS revenge against Newt, et al, for trying to eliminate federal funding for NEH, NEA, and PBS back in the "good old" Contract on America days.

Mr. Joe Wilson is an American hero. We have freedom of speech here. I encrouage my children to stand tall and proud and yell "You Lie" to anyone (even teachers, especially teachers) who are liars and un American. We ordered You Lie t shirts for our family and wear them proudly. Even to church where our brehern are very supportive. God bless the U S of A.

Jeez. "Especially teachers"? Why is it o.k. in your mind to disrupt a classroom's instruction? While your kids can certainly disagree with their teachers, yelling "you lie" is not engaging in reasoned discourse but instead is trying to establish a superior power relationship in a situation where they should, instead, be open to someone who knows more about a subject than they do. Its all about developing the capacity to reason. Reasoning... remember? Its what you go to school for.

Freedom of speech is the reason you're allowed to post such insults on this web site without getting arrested for treason. It does NOT, however, mean there are no rules. I don't think you're a very responsible parent if that's what you're teaching your children about civics. This whole argument has nothing to do with the First Amendment ... Rep. Wilson got censured because he broke the rules of decorum which are expected in the congressional chambers. Just like you can get fired for heckling your boss at work.
