Gisele Bundchen UN Ambassador: Takes On Brazil President Over Amazon

Her comments were published Monday in major Brazilian newspapers that covered her comments as she was named a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Environment Program.

Silva said Monday that his new proposal to limit sugarcane production in the Amazon and other ecologically sensitive areas is proof of his commitment to Amazon preservation. It was unveiled last week.

Amazon deforestation is pure and simple lack of enforcement.

Cattle farmers burned all they could as fast as they could so no one could oust them later.

The government gave lots of amazon lands to really poor people and these people were so unqualifyed to handle the land they sold all the prime wood, then burned everything down and sold the land in 6 months they were worst than when they started because now they had ruined a productive patch of land out of sheer ignorance.

Lula has many qualities, but whenever he insists on some kind of social reform its usually horribly horrible disapointing.

Having lived in Brazil for several years and familiar with some of the environmental issues there (yet by no means an expert)-- >

sugarcane production has nothing really to do with deforestation.

Well established areas for sugarcane production have been in place for dozens of years and with brazil's climate, sugarcane grows at amazing rates - allowing brazil to have a large number of cars on the roadways that are powered by alcohol provided by "sustainable" means.

The Greeny Folks on HuffPost don't seem to care about the rainforest, as they are continuing to TOUT Brazil's sugar cane production to manufacture alcohol as something laudatory and something the US should emulate!

Or are they just schizophrenic, managing to believe multiple contradictory things at once?
