Josh Treviño, GOP Consultant: "My Red Hair And Pale Skin IS My Passport"

Joshua S. Treviño, a former speechwriter for the Bush administration and a co-founder of RedState.com, appeared to endorse racial profiling in border control on Monday.

Trevino wrote on Twitter, "Dear Border Patrol: my red hair and pale skin IS my passport, bureaucrats."

After criticism from other Twitterers, he later added, "For the record, kids: that border should be open, open, open. But if you're going to check documents, don't be a fool about it." He went on to say that he himself is half-Mexican (but, apparently, he doesn't look it). Accused of "self-loathing," he replied: "My loyalty is to my country, not my ethnicity."

I'm curious...­.I had a friend who traveled to Spain. When she spoke she was teased for her dialect of speaking "Indian Spanish." What's up with this seemingly denigration of the language..­..or do all Spaniards make the distinction by speaking Castillian (sp), "proper" Spanish?..­...

The same goes for English. Though in Spain, they have always looked "down" at the Spanish spoken by the "colonies" instead of the Queen's Spanish (Castillian). Sound familar "on this side of the pond"?

I can absolutely assure you that it's not just Spaniards who do this. You have that going on everywhere. When we were in Montreal last year, they were complaining that when they go to Paris, they're denigrated for the "type" of French they speak. Evidently it's not the same French as those in France speak. Cajuns run into the same thing. Back here in the U.S., I'm not blameless either. I tend to smirk sometimes when I hear someone from the south with "y'all," and their accent and dialect. (Mostly because I tend to think they're automatically republican­s.)

To think I was going to waste my money hard earned money, and reapply for a passport. Who would've thought I could just swing over to Duane Reade, and buy some white Griffin shoe polish to get the coveted white pastey look, and then hop on over to the Halloween costume shop and purchase a Raggedy Ann wig. Voila, instant Anglo! I'd look ridiculous, but at least I'd breeze through Customs.
