French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy arrived stateside yesterday and made her first U.S. appearance as Global Ambassador for the Protection of Mothers and Children against AIDS at the Superfriends Champions Of The Global Fund Reception. She also brought along one of her own super-friends, Queen Rania of Jordan, who had spent the afternoon at the Young Women's Leadership School in East Harlem. See what the power pair wore during their humanitarian day out in NYC.

queen rania is severly diabetic, thats why she looks so gaunt,,as for her world hopping and always with celebrities,,she loves the attention,,maybe seh should first concentrate at correcting the bad things in her country first, then set an example to the whole world.

to correct the bad things in her country is not easy when religion dictates more than the king.

Two rich and powerful, and good-looking women, are "friends". Cute. The masses are asked to marvel over this.

That's why we are never going to have the economic reform we need. As long as so much emphasis is placed on the expensive clothes and lifestyle of the elites, Main Street is never going to recover.

On one side you have a woman whose whole country's survival depends on the US aid, whose nation's health, education, living standard is a joke and where women are treated as slaves and on the other sideyou have educated, sophisticated c a r l a.

I wouldn't want to listen to Queen Rania, She has nothing to offer underpreviliged children in the US.
Her country depends on US aid, yet she is so rich and elegant - off our tax dollars. What is this!!!!

Very proud of you Queen Rania , I have watch your interview on Cable and the issue that you have shown on the internet, I would like to see more Middle Eastern and Arab- American women to get involved about the many issue that concern our generation whether in the US or in the Arab Country, and to let the world know that the Arab women can do make a difference in the society that we have respect, but not always agree with, for me I'm always proud of my sisters for what they accomplished for them self and there children.

How jealous you are!!!!
Admit it...They have it all....

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:43 PM on 09/22/2009

"Having it all" is relative. While they seem relatively happy with their lives, their definition of "all" may not be someone else's. Not everyone is jealous. Some people just have different opinions.

I personally wonder why both of them always look like they're saying "huh?" I think they both looked better before they had whatever they had done to their faces. My opinion.

According to these women the keys to female empowerment lie in been born into or marrying great wealth and power. Great role models.

Being rich is not a sin. What you do and how you do it are. Both ladies devote a lot of time and energy in humanitarian causes. Are sour grapes really necessary?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:07 PM on 09/22/2009

I wonder too. I think it's great that they are trying to empower the next generation of women, but I wonder how much these younger women will be able to identify with those from such a completely different background.

IMO, someone like Michelle, Sonia, or even Condi would have been a better choice: because they've at least had to work exceptionally hard ACADEMICALLY. They got ahead by means of their brains rather than their looks (i.e., none were professional "supermodels" )

So you're saying only women with impressive diploma's count and the rest aren't allowed to have an opinion and should shut up?

Why is it only good to achieve something with your brain? People have many different qualities and intelligence is just one of them.

Yes, but these woman have both worked very hard in their lives, including being a parent. Remember, Clara Bruni-Sarkozy has had two successful careers by her 40s - that's saying something. Luck only happens to people who put themselves in Luck's way; in other words, Carla Bruni put in A LOT of hours of dedicated, hard work.

Queen Rania wasn't born into royalty, she was born a commoner-Palestinian refugee. She was a university student when she met her husband the future King, but it's no use disregarding her because of who she loves. She's obviously very bright and talented and fit to marry royalty, so yes, she has been handed a lot of power, but she has clearly put it to good use judging from the amount of awards she has won. She has a bunch of kids, and has been very active in matters related to human rights, particularly concerning women and children, and has worked in the real world.

Honestly I don't understand holding somebody's good fortunes against them. I would understand it if they acted stupidly with it, like that Hatch dude from Survivor, but these two beautiful, talented women have demonstrated that they are worth their britches. Both the Queen and Bruni-Sarkozy possess an inner beauty that gives life and form to the outer. And I love how the French wear such tight clothes - and Carla is always in form fitting attire.

Look, if a former model/singer and a princess can relate to and inspire this young women in Harlem, more power to them. I don't elevate this people above the rest, the masses can do that for me. It seems the biggest story is their belts and clutches.
