Kevin O'Connell was away on business when he got a call from a Denver animal-control officer: His dog, a Presa Canario, had mauled a Chihuahua. O'Connell, a civil engineer who lives in Thornton, had left his two dogs with a friend who lives in Denver; he gave the officer his friend's address. Then his friend called: She said that animal-control officers had shown up at her house, but instead of impounding the Presa Canario, they'd taken his other dog, Dexter, who'd been in her back yard.

There are some very specific things that cause dog aggression, and breed-specific legislation does nothing to address the causes.

I'll be traveling to Colorado this winter but am avoiding Denver even though it's the most convenient airport. I refuse to spend money in a city with a policy like this.

No, and that was an hysterical overreaction to specific breed fear. I lived in Denver for several decades and remember when that policy was adopted. It was mean-spirited and cruel. Bad dog owners should be banned from Denver and everywhere else.

For a city with so many dog people, Denver has some rotten animal-related laws.

people medicate children because they are unruly, people muzzle dogs because they are nippy,i dont see a difference,if you ban breeds,i better see some children banned.

Instead of banning pit bulls require the owners to put a mouth guard over their dogs when in public?

If you need to put a mouth guard over the dog in public, that's not a domesticated pet, that's a wild beast.
