nytimes.com:

A federal judge has ruled that the government failed to adequately assess the environmental impacts of genetically engineered sugar beets before approving the crop for cultivation in the United States. The decision could lead to a ban on the planting of the beets, which have been widely adopted by farmers.

Didn't Bush waive all environmental impact standards, or was that just a bad dream?

A strong labeling law will take care of GM foods permanently. Why do you think Monsanto fights it? How can consumers make INFORMed decisions when the INFORMation is hidden from them? But then I'd like the Government to take a truthful position on the health impact of High Fructose Corn Syrup. That's not going to happen soon, I think.

Lobbyists seem to write the rules. Where are the lobbyists for the people? I thought they were supposed to be the people we elected and sent to Washington. Guess I was misINFORMed.

Yup disclosure is best.

What I don't understand tho is why do it now when the gmo beets are already 95% already out there. Shoulda done this before it was released into the environment.

Responsible practices would have never done that.

But as we see time and again, conservatives oppose responsible practices. To them, business "innovation" needs an "anything goes" mentality.

Disclosure is good. But there are problems it doesn't fix.

Show your support of GM labeling by purchasing only Cane Sugar. Many companies carry it now. Pure Cane Sugar.

Monsanto is on the way to creating a monopoly on all the food crops they produce through genetic engineering and patenting of the organisms. The following video explains things quite well.

The Future of Food.

Everyone needs to see this.

There should be a ban on all GM foods. Until there is, we the people have a right to know what is put in our food supply. All GM food should be labeled. Any processed food with GM ingredients should be labeled. That labeling should be on the front of the product. All seed corporations should have their patents on seeds, including natural seeds withdrawn. No one should be able to patent a food.

Farmers need to get really mad at the seed companies.

The seed companies are patenting all the plants. Patents were never meant to extend to living things.

"David Berg, president of American Crystal Sugar Company, the nation’s largest sugar beet processor, said food companies had accepted sugar from the biotech beets. “They’ve been a big nonevent in terms of customer acceptance,” he said."

Only because consumers have no right to know if something is GMO or not thanks to Monsanto and the USDA,

Go Judge White. Thanks for standing up for "we the people" rather than "we the corporations". We don't want our crops contaminated with GMO pollen and then have monsanto come back and sue us for their lack of over site the way they did the canola farmer in Canada.

Consumers should have the choice of whether they want or don't want GM foods.

Funny how the supposed "let the free market decide" conservatives did everything they could to bury and hide GM foods into America's food supply.

GM foods aren't inherently evil, but I find that the studies and regulation on these types of foods just aren't there. I think since you can patent living organisms, like GM foods, the patent holders should be found held responsible for any damages done.

The fact is when you change the genetics of a plant that has been sexually reproducing for thousands of years you have unforeseen consequences.

Great. Hopefully this is just the start of a ban on all GM foods.

Now do the environmental assessments for all of the GM products that were never done. Also, label all food if it has GM products and see how well accepted it is with public.

Excellent!
Finally a Judge with understanding!
Now it is time Americans unite and demand an end to Frankenfoods in all and every form.

Caesarion sections have increased from less than 300.000 in '83 to over a million today.

In Bali, the women giving birth after eating RR-soy, present with umbilical cords that are flat and only 30 cm long. This is less than half the length of a normal umbilical cord. As a result, caesarian sections are on the rise by a massive 700%.

In the US we see the same trend after the introduction of RR-soy.
However, the Medical Industry keeps mum about the reasons of the rise.

its not just franken foods

the courts need to stop treating corporations as "individuals" and holding them liable and accountable for their negligence.

This change has been slowly but steadily happening. It is THE #1 reason I didn't want Bush elected. However, Obama is a corporate favorable attorney as well but it remains to be seen what kind of appt's he makes to the courts.

He has so far been "corp" friendly with his health appts.
