Maybe the Pakistanis are tired of being killed by Predator Drones. At least with the Marines on the ground they might see it coming.

Sending drones over their land to kill civilians might be hurting our prestige in the area.

This is why these peasants get 1.5 billion per year?!

Nice, peasants huh?

That would not be a racist comment would it?

You're really stretching aren't you? When did peasant become a racist term? In some parts of the world you can call a peasant a peasant, because it defines them in the same way you call an investment banker a gutter wallowing pig.

When we send money to a country the "people" never get the money. The government officials get the money. Hence the reasons the people remain "peasants'.

When we economically sanction a country the government officials never get hurt, the "people" do.

Sure Pakistan. Go ahead and turn on us (officially). It's not like it's obvious that you are giving safe haven to terrorists all this time anyway.

All it would mean is that we switch our base of operations to India and add a few dozen more Predator Drones. What you say to THAT?

I would say that the conflict would go on indefinitely.

If you cannot see the benefit of working with Pakistan then you no doubt hope the conflict lasts for ever.

These people hate us. We are constantly murdering Pakistani civilians. Duh. Likewise Iraq. Can you imagine having your mother or sister or grandfather blown to bits for nothing by invading marauders?

Perhaps your mother or sister shouldn't have been giving aid and comfort to people who want to decapitate Americans simply for being born American.

Did you not understand what the person said, "having your mother or sister or grandfather blown to bits for nothing?" Deliberate killing is for the foolhardy or the heartless. Blame all for the actions of a few, is that your belief?

So now Americans want to kill Pakistani women and children -- for revenge. How progressive. No wonder USA standing in the world is diminishing

Considering that political parties are so adept at creating divisions within our own borders, it's no surprise Pakistan will remain a difficult country to convince that we are all good intentions with a big wad of bills for their well-being. In the course of human events, drawing lines between one religion or culture and another has worked well for nationalism and groups seeking power through appeal to people's innate suspicions.

The billions mentioned here will be a tasty bonus for those skimming the money (TARP for Pakistan). Truthfully, I don't know what else we can do, given that we squandered our opportunity to effectively address Al Qaeda in this region on the heels of the 2001 attack and possess a stalemate strategy. Whether anything can realistically be done to abort Al Qaeda presence in difficult geographical and political country to penetrate is arguable, at best; but it will remain problematic to have a presence in Pakistan with its sensitivity to border issues and anti-Muslim fears fanning paranoia.

Maybe they'll remember the vast amounts of aid, food/water, and BILLIONS OF DOLLARS we've given them.

Right, they should be more grateful we destabilized the entire region then funneled cash to special interests to prop up failing dictators.
