NEW YORK — The CW network's "The Beautiful Life: TBL" has become the first television series from the new fall crop to be canceled.

The network says it's being pulled after only two episodes aired.

The drama starred Mischa Barton and Sara Paxton and was executive produced by Ashton Kutcher. It was set in the glamorous modeling world of New York City.

It premiered Sept. 16 to just 1.5 million viewers. The audience dropped for this week's episode.

In its place on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern the CW will repeat episodes of its promising new "Melrose Place" revival, one day after their original airing.

Good, Micha looked a mess and it was a boring mess. From melrose place, one tree hill, gossip girl, they all look the dang same and I don't really even have to watch any of them to know that.

I actually watched both episodes (I think Mischa Barton is hot...no apologies for it....)and my reaction to the cancellation is decided. mixed. One one hand the show was kind of blah in its approach, it was supposed to have been a down and dirty look at the secret world of the fashion industry displaying for eager prurient eyes...and yet turned out to be as scandalous as a basket of freshly laundered socks. Not that entertaining. On the other hand...two episodes and they pull the trigger? Even NBC would have waited at least a month before dropping the ax. Back in the day the networks would have at least tried to fix a show stumbling out of the gate before putting it to pasture.

They also cancelled Reaper. I know that show was really stupid, but it was a lot of sophomoric fun.

I hope the producers of the "Cleveland Show," take a hint.

As I recall, Rosie O'Donnell's variety hour was cancelled after ONE episode, as was "Turn On," a "Laugh-In" wanna-be from 40 years ago on ABC.

It is a pity it didn't take "One Tree Hill," "Melrose Place," "Gossip Girl" and "91020" with it. I mean enough already with these non-entertaining dramas.

Wrong. The show's producers got paid when they sold the initial episodes to the network. It is the network that takes the financial hit by canceling the show and losing potential advertising dollars. This is why production companies continue to develop TV shows despite the fact that most never make it (or stay) on the air.

Too many "networks", too many "no budget" shows, too many "no talent" actors. When will the bottom fall out of this mess that was once entertaining television?

I heard (on the street) that more people read this HP article than watched the show... but sadly this comment only got half those viewers.... well the heck with them - they are going to miss this engageing suggestion - they should have put some hot young chicks on the that show - maybe that would have saved it?

GIGO, but Two Episodes? The TV business is even more chicken than it was years ago. How do you develop a ratings trend with two data points? These networks must be pulling the plug to save money someplace. My question is did the production company get paid for the full order (however many episodes it was) beforehand? I know Networks pull shows and go to re-runs when they're afraid for the ratings, which won't be high enough to pay for the show via advertising revenues. But a better question might be how much will the Network not have to pay the producers because the show got ashcanned before the full order of episodes was aired? That answer better explains the two episode bailouts that have become more and more common these days. Personally, I don't care because most of these shows are awful, but producing them and getting them on air keep a lot of good people working, and I don't mean the no talent cast, thank you very much. It's the production companies and faculties that get reamed when something like this happens. That's who I feel the worst for.

I'm not surprised. Barton sucks as an actress, completely unbelievable and monotone. The writing was terrible, too.

I bet the show was originally intended for HBO or Showtime and got watered down for network.
