Denver Library Closing: Tempers Fly At Local Town Hall

A standing-room-only crowd packed the Byers branch library over the weekend to vocalize their opposition to a proposed budget-cutting plan that would close and sell the historic library.

Councilwoman Judy Montero led the public meeting and encouraged the estimated 80 attendees to write fellow city council members and Mayor John Hickenlooper urging them to oppose the 91-year-old library's closure. The closure is part of the city's proposed 2010 budget that seeks to shore up a $120 million shortfall.
