In general, loss of species that perform unique functions and have few close relatives (in evolutionary terms) would cause the most disruption.

Sadly, this trend will only amplify in the next decade. We've just about killed the planet. It's starting to sink in.
My oh my, isn´t there some sort of editorial oversight? To begin with "animals" are not just vertebrates. You guys are ignoring the other 98% that actually matter. Not to mention that "warm and fuzzy" only account for 0.5%, and these are mostly rodents and small brown birds. Also 9.2% is 9% if you want to round the number. Still worrying, so there is no need to push the numbers up and offer an obvious target to extinction deniers. Finally the numbers are really a regurgitated IUCN list in which all three categories (critical, endangered and vulnerable) are crammed into one. If you check the original IUCN list you can see that amphibians and mammals are getting hammered compared to the rest.
This is already happening, according to the journal Nature. I'm away from the stats right now (on my iPhone) but will post again when I can.
That would be hundreds of thousands of species. And let's not forget the plants, etc. But they're not furry with eyes.
And all the ugly little things ... roaches, parasitic fungi, poisonous frogs, bird eating bats, the wily chupucabra, mosquitoes... all deserve a place on the Earth.
Seriously. As the things that believe we are the highest life forms I think we have a duty.
Animials?.......Um this verge of extinction has been going on even before the Warmists decided everything that is human is evil
Humans are the only thing that are "human". What other creatures do you think are "human"? Or maybe not "human"?
We need less animals because they produce carbon.
Warmists have it wrong....thee are not too many people, there are too many other species.
I think i like warmists better than climate fixers
First of all, cute of you to label those who can read the IPCC report and understand it as "-ists" as if they were believing in something rather than knowing something.
Second, only some are talking about population--mostly white people who don't want to lose their products.
C'mon. It's not about race. It's about priviliged nations (by whatever means) andtheir inhabitants VS the others. White people happen to be a majority but speaking as a white person we didn't have a grand plan to kill all things on the planet. Now, mention the xia/ns, and some other religious and psuedo-religious practices and you have a point.
To clarify - by majority i mean white people have developed the most dominate industrial nations who are also polluting the most..
