's John Derbyshire Speaks Out Against Women's Suffrage

John Derbyshire, who provides the National Review with its chief source of Old Country lackwitticism, has a new wingnut-welfare tome out called We Are Doomed: Reclaiming Conservative Pessimism, in which he mounts the case against women's suffrage, a dumb idea to which he was beaten by a woman, for what it's worth. Via ThinkProgress comes the news that Alan Colmes attempted to divine the depths of this nonsense, on the radio. Derbyshire, who has, in the past, nevertheless entertained the prospect of voting for Hillary Clinton, stated that his basic argument goes like this: "[Women] want someone to nurture, they want someone to help raise their kids, and if men aren't inclined to do it -- and in the present days, they're not much -- then they'd like the state to do it for them."

Derbyshire went on to add:

"Among the hopes that I do not realistically nurse is the hope that female suffrage will be repealed. But I'll say this - if it were to be, I wouldn't lose a minute's sleep."

I suppose the only people losing sleep would be the women, who'd still be without a responsible male figure to help raise all the children spawned from their baby batter.
