Obama Anniversary

WASHINGTON (AP)- There was no trip to New York and no fancy outing as the Obamas celebrated their first wedding anniversary since they moved to the White House.

Instead they kept it simple, with a dinner out Saturday night at an elegant, American-fare restaurant near Georgetown. The evening was balmy and the moon almost full.

President Barack Obama stayed in all day before taking a motorcade with Michelle Obama to the Blue Duck Tavern to mark their 17th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Obama stepped into the restaurant wearing a backless knee-length dress while the president wore a dark suit.

Last year, the Obamas also had an understated anniversary with a simple dinner out in downtown Chicago. The Obamas were married Oct. 3, 1992 in a ceremony at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

The anniversary dinner came after a whirlwind week that saw the Obamas fly to Copenhagen to make an unsuccessful pitch for their hometown of Chicago to host the 2016 Olympics.

I think that the President and Mrs. Obama looked great. I wish that Michelle would smile more though. I hate to be an advocate for the cheesy, false smile public figures usually have on their face, but especially in politics, a smile seems to be essential. I have noticed too many times that Michelle often has an unpleasant facial expression. I think that this is completely unintentional, but it is something that she needs to be more aware of.

Mrs. Obama should learn that LESS IS MORE. With simple clothes she will get the same attention. Solid simple colors and designs go with her body. Don't give a show. It is not necessary.

This dress was about as simple as they come. So was the jewelry and shoes.

Yah seriously, how much more simpler could she go. She looked fabulous, positively glowing. She had me at the backless part of her dress. Did we see the same picture?

Every time I see them, it always seems to me that the President is still gugu-gaga about the first lady. I've been married for 19 years, my husband spends my money and does not give me the time of day.

For some reason the Obama's don't look very happy in these
pictures. Maybe they are tired from their trip to Copenhagen.
Anyway....Happy Anniversary...

Check out the picture of Chris Noth and his new fiance. She looks like she's suffocating. Why don't women buy stuff that fits? Michelle Obama, BTW, looks just fine...real fine.

The Obamas look like a sexy, happy, couple! There is more to America than the Olympics. America just had the Olympics here less than 10 years ago when Atlanta hosted it! South America has never had it so let them go into debt like every other country/city that has sponsored the games. Everyone keeps forgetting that the President said two weeks ago that he would not go to Denmark. He changed his mind the week of the bid annoucement. He either did it because Chicago did not have a shot at winning the bid or Chicago had a strong chance at winning the bid. If he hadn't gone and Chicago lost, blame the President, If he hadn't gone, and Chicago won, blame the President, If he had gone and Chicago won, blame the President, he went and Chicago lost in the first round- blame the President. So you see it wouldn't have matter! So enjoy your 17 years of wedded bliss Mr. President and do something Americans need more than the Olympics. Health Care Reform!

I've been married 30 years and wouldn't change it for the world...good times and bad times are better when shared with someone you love.

Words from a bitter woman! I have been married 12 years Nov. 1st and I would not trade it for the world. The good, the bad and the ugly. At the end of the day; we are still working, loving and sharing as one.

I've been married for 37 years...38 in March.
I have a number of friends that also have been married 25+ years.
If it were easy, everyone would do it.
Marriage is like owning a car. If you don't change the oil, check the tires, transmission, the belts, etc. it will fall apart REAL soon.
And you can get a different car, but if you do the same thing with the new car, you will get the same results.

Secretly I'm glad Chi-Town didn't receive the Olympic bid because anything that went wrong the Repubs would have blamed the President and First Lady.

that's like saying "i'd be happy if obama wasn't president because anything that goes wrong, the republicans will blame it on him."

one should not base their decisions on what will keep republicans from blaming and criticizing. it's not possible. they don't know how to do anything else.

If everything would have gone right and it would have been a success, you don't think the Republicans wouldn't have found a reason to blame the President.

They're blaming them now for not getting the Olympics.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:41 PM on 10/06/2009

Although I agree with you, the Atlanta games were in 1996 which was 13 years ago. Having the Olympics here would be nice and would create jobs, but let other countries have their chance too.

I can imagine what the Obamas did.
They had a fight on their anniversary, then decided to go out to celebrate their 17th but made sure to alert the photographers to do some snapshots for their negatively tuned republican countrymen.

Good plot, isn't it? Do something "good" everytime and the reps will find a way to turn it into a negative.
