Fair Trade The White House (PETITION)

Fair Trade The White House (PETITION)

Fair trade organizations, vendors and consumers around the globe have banded together to invite First Lady Michelle Obama to declare the White House "A Fair Trade Home." October is Fair Trade Awareness Month, and the petition to urge the President and First Lady to increase the amount of fair trade items used by the White House is circulating around the world.

The coalition hopes that the campaign to introduce fair trade into the regular buying habits of the White House, from produce and coffeee to body products (imagine: fair trade soaps for the White House's well-appointed bathrooms) and eco-friendly clothing and footwear will kick off a larger wave of support for the fair trade movement and ethical consumption. Fair trade aims to ensure that individuals producing a product are treated and paid fairly, and that the environment is conserved. Cities devoted to the principles of fair trade in the United States include Amherst, MA, and San Francisco, CA.
