The New York Observer:

It seems opponents of the Jean Nouvel-designed skyscraper planned to rise next to MoMA are well-funded.

The opponents, mostly neighbors of the 1,050-foot tower-to-be, are hitting the airwaves Monday with a television ad that directly targets Council Speaker Christine Quinn, urging her to oppose the development, planned to be built by the Texas firm Hines. The ad buy comes a day before the City Council holds a hearing on the building, which needs Council approval to go forward.

The campaign against the tower is energy and money wasted. If the rich neighbors of MoMA don't like skyscrapers, why do they live in Midtown Manhattan?? You couldn't pick a worse neighborhood if you're into cape coders or bungalows.

Skyscrapers made Manhattan, and the MoMA spire is a beautiful 21st century building that is well designed, as opposed to most of the boxes that were thrown up around town in the latest boom. The MoMA district is rich architecturally, and to oppose this addition is to make it, and New York poorer.
