Mike Duvall Will Not Be Investigated For Lobbyist Sex

The Associated Press reports that California Assemblyman Mike Duvall will not be investigated for his self-confessed affair with two female lobbyists.

A spokesman for Attorney General Jerry Brown said Duvall did not break any laws and will not be investigated for his actions, which came to light in a colorful way when the Republican bragged about his sexual escapades into an open microphone.

Critics called for Duvall, who is married, to be investigated for trading sex for votes. But the legislature's lawyers told lawmakers last week that they did not have the authority to pursue an investigation, according to the AP. Duvall resigned on Sept. 9.

The Los Angeles Times reported last week that the FBI had questioned at least two former employees of Duvall, including his former chief of staff, to see if there is any evidence of wrongdoing.

"We did make contact with the two aides," said Special Agent Steve Dupre, a spokesman for the FBI. He declined to comment further.
